I use progressive for both the bike and the cars. They always seem to come up with the best deal for me...

I have Progressive. I recently had the clutch fail on the K while on 101 in SoCal. I called progressive and they had the towing company to me within an hour and the bike was taken to the dealer. No hassles, just great prompt service.

I too use USAA. Since I carry only liability on my bikes I usually inactivate my bike policy in the winter when the bikes go into storage and reactivate in the spring; since I have several bikes this saves me some money. This year USAA told me they are no longer writing motorcycle insurance, and now have an agreement with Progressive. So now my "USAA" motorcycle insurance is written by Progressive. If you go to USAA to insure a new bike I suspect you will also end up with Progressive.

Curtis, I too have USAA. I keep the LT on year round but have a couple of Honda's I take off from Nov-April. They (USAA) have not mentioned this change to me and I just got my renewal policy. Thanks for the heads up, I'll give them a call Monday. By the way, everytime I get a call from one of their competitors for a rate quote the first question they ask is who are you currently insured with. When I tell them they say thanks, but we can't beat their price or coverage.

Unless you have the same age rider on same bike in same area of state with same years exp and same milage. It is not a very real comparison.
I had guys whining how could I fully insure 4 bikes (including a reconstructed panhead) a pull behind pop up trailer, and all my equipment for the magazine, for a couple bucks more than they paid for one bike.
1. All my stuff is paid for (there are no lein holders)
2. 30+ years exp.
3. multiple bike policy for 25 years (over 10 with present company)
4. Home owner
5. MC safety course
All these things and more go into the mix.
My insurance bill for the above (including $10,000 extra to cover cameras laptop and trailer) $734 per year.

I had Progressive for all my vehicles until I bought an '05 Triumph Speed Triple. They really wanted to rake me over the coals when I tried to add it to my policy. I switched my bikes to Geico and kept my autos with Progressive.

Was with Progressive for 5+ years, three bikes getting older and less value but rates keep going up with no "incidents" so I shopped it and ended up saving @ 25% on three bikes.

I Use USAA for all three cars, the boat and the LT. I have a driving 18 years old some at home so my rates are about $5K a year. I though day-care was expensive! I would have never guessed they would get more expensive as they got older. Anyone have a good number for a Marine recruiter?

I was a lifelong State Farm customer until a couple of years ago (autos, home, and motorcycle). State Farm's motorcycle rates are pretty competitive in South Carolina, or so I've always heard.
My wife (who does not drive the bike) had a couple of accident claims and we got a notice of nonrenewal when her policy came due one year. So by necessity we switched her to Progressive. Then when my auto policy came up, State Farm sent me a notice of nonrenewal. I was not too surprised, since my wife is a listed driver on my account.
Then my annual policy on my LT came up and, you guessed it, I received a notice that State Farm was not going to renew my motorcycle coverage. I called my agent and pointed out that my wife (I have not had any accidents) does not drive the bike. Sorry, the decision is made on a household basis.
Well, I was sorry, too. I switched my motorcycle coverage to Progressive and also moved my homeowner's coverage to another company. Saved money, too.
Since then I've received several mailings from State Farm asking me to come back. When I received the first one I called my former agent and reminded them that it was State Farm's decision not to do business with me. Since that time I just throw any State Farm mail in the trash.

I use National General which is under written by GMAC. When I purchased my LT I was put into shock by the carrier that I had my GoldWing insured with along with my house and cars. I did the normal shopping and came across this company through Rider Mag. They gave me a Rider Mag. discount. Full coverage with high limits on my liability is $550.00 a year.

You all should be glad you don't live in Michigan. Progressive is one of the few companies that will insure here for a somewhat reasonable rate. $800.00 a yr for a 2002 LT, many years of experience, safety courses, and a clean driving record. Last yr it was $700.00.

Folks:
Just had the insurance to come due and it took another jump, so I went looking. I am currently with Guide One, which had been pretty reasonable until this last year. They now want $280 just for the LT, a 2 K model, full coverage at 50/100/50.
I got quotes for 3 bikes, the LT the only one with full coverage, the other two just liability and theft.
McGraw MC ins wanted $372.00
Progressive wanted $430.00
Geico wanted $310.00
Now one other thing about Geico, the limits were more than doubled. With McGraw and Progressive the limit was 50,000/100,000/50,000.
With Geico the limit is 100,000/300,000/100,000.
For the record, I'm 62, married, been riding since Spot was a pup, taken ERC, had no tickets or accidents in God knows how long, and reside in Georgia. Still, I was surprised that Geico could beat all others in the rates. I went with them and time will tell how good that decision was.
Thanks
