... with tire removal and mounting? Do any of the smartire owners change their own tires? If yes, please coment.
Any balancing issues?
Any problems with sensors getting loose and tumbling within the tire?

They don't interfere with mounting and dismounting as long as you know where they are. You remove the tire starting at the sensor and install ending at the sensor. I have had one broken by a ham-fisted tech. I now change my own. Have done at least 3 sets. I also wrap a couple of zip-ties around the sensor and the clamp as insurance. I balance the rim with the sensor and again with the tire on.

Proper install is the key to avoid a sensor clamp loosening. The tire needs to be removed with caution . Just follow the directions it is a great system.

I printed the a few pages of directions from the Smartire website and handed it to the tech.. He said he hadn't mounted a tire with Smartire but it was basically like some bead locking stuff he did on another tire.

Houston,TxDan, do you actually add weights before putting the tire on?
When the tire is on, what's the typical weight added to acheive balance?

I've had the SmarTire sensor on my front wheel busted off by a tech who wasn't paying attention, but other than that no problem with mounting or balancing.
I am looking forward to the integrated tire pressure system in the 06 RTs though, so that hopefully I won't have to worry about techs missing the SmarTire stickers on my wheels.

I put the weights under the clamp when balancing without the tire. After installing the tire it usually takes 7 to 21 grams of weight,(1-3 sections of weight)
