Hang on, there's a question coming; first some background:
I'm thinking about purchasing a new or slightly used GSA. Boy, there have been some sweat deals on 2006 1150GSA's with low miles, some have had a lot of extras. I passed up two opportunities to buy very low mileage 1150 GSA's for $13K or less. check this out (it's gone): http://ellisatl.smugmug.com/gallery/1857394/1/93233774
However, used 2006 1200 GSA's are going for the near new price!
A couple of questions before I outlay $:
- Do you experienced GS/GSA riders know whether the depreciation typical on 1 to 3 year old 1150 GSA's is going to carry over to 1200 GSA's given another year or two? (I assume low supply is temporarily keeping the 1200 GSA price up)
- Given your experience with GS and GSA bikes, do you think the 2007 bikes will have less problems? ... how long does it take BMW to recognize and fix engineering and/or manufacturing problems?

Depreciation depends upon the seller's reason for sale. Winter is coming and
if there is any time pressure on the seller, you can get a good deal. I just did.

John, buy a 1200gs or gsa, spend the money ride it till it dies, the gsa has almost 1 degree more steering angle, so the gs corners a tad quicker
the gsa 8.7 gls of gas more wind protection
the 1150 gsa is bulky and clunky IMHO compared to the 1200gsa/gs , I did not like the 1150gsa near as much, the reason I bought the 1200's they are lighter quicker and much easier to handle

I should have said go look at the specs on them, that alone will change your mind, you will not believe how much quicker the 1200gs steers and how much lighter it is than the 1150's
The 1150's are taking a hit because of the new 1200gs and the 1200gsa on the market.
next year you may be able to get a gsa much easier, but right now there are several new 1200gs on the floor at bmw of atlanta

Tom...when the time is right. I've got to make room in my garage 1st! I've also decided it will be the GSA, probably next spring or summer.

probably better to wait till then anyhow providing bmw keeps production up. as far as the steering I was told they more than likely gave the gsa more angle to make up for the extra weight of the bike. Makes sense anyhow, but boy does Karens GS take the corners nice, I hope the GSA is not that much different

1150 GS Adv. is far more stable on the freeway with a crosswind near semi's. Friends with 1200 GS's have issues with water crossing, batteries lasting, and some with gas mileage. 1200 is better on dirt roads, yet the 1150 GSA can ride with the 1200's. 1150 GSA has a better low gear, much better skid plate, easier to deal with wiring system. I have looked at and ridden the 1200 GS, for a long trip and riding remote roads, I'll keep my 1150 GSA. I know several 1200 GS's with issues that seem to continue. 1200 GSA is faster, shifting is smoother.

I don't know, I did not like the handling of the 1150 ADV at highway speeds, it seemed squirrelly.
Personally, I like the highway handling of the R1200GSA it does fine passing semi's, is it as good as the K1200LT while passing? probably not, but i have had the LT get pushed around quite a bit by semi's as well.
No more "whizzy" brakes either.
