We are looking to move out to France in the not to distant future and have heard that a bike over 100BHP cannot be imported.
Can anybody confirm this as if this is so I wil have to sell my LT as it is over this limit (2005 model).
Thanks

Yes bikes over 100 Bhp are not allowed to be registered in france.
If you find a way to keep your registration ( bike in the name of a relative living in the UK) you could get away with it....

So when was this "brilliant" piece of legislation enacted ?

I've read this before and always wondered: What is the reason for the limitation -- is it a knee-jerk reaction to high-performance bikes?

Not really Howard. When I was stationed in Japan in the early 70's, any bike manufactured and ridden in Japan could not be over 750cc's. It was interesting when one of the Army guys I knew bought the first Kawasaki Z1, Engine S/N 000000001 and Frame S/N 000000001, and it was 900cc's.

FWIW, France also limits the output on personal audio devices. Apple had to make special iPod firmware to limit the top volume possible. Fortunately, it's easy enough to get around.
I guess the French government knows more about what's good for its people than its people do.

Especially when it comes to sending them to fight a war.

When are they going to blaockade the ports and start setting fire to pigs which is the French way of protesting at something they don't like?
