They cost very little. For $30 you can buy 4 to 6 of them at the nearest store.
Why don't buy a bunch and try each one. Keep the one you liked and give the other at your office. :)
I used the digital ones for a time, untill it runs out of battery then I went back to the pen stile, with the bar who pop-up when you check. Simple and do the work.

RoadGear Compact Tire Gauge
http://www.cyclegadgets.com/Products/product.asp?Item=TIREGAUGE
Fits under the rotors in the front, still some effort to get it on, but it holds the reading for when you pull it off. Easier to use than any of the multiple sets of pens, dials, and other gauges I've brought and tried.

Ummm That's exactly the reason for asking, :)
I've got a half a dozen pencil style ones and they're just not consistent enough.

Hans, I'm using one like this for years, very flexible & accurate and adjustable agaist a standard.

Accugage, round dial with needle pointer, 0-60 index. 90 degree chuck, short length of braided hose, and holds the needle pointer until you push the release button. I've got four of 'em and they ALL read and calibrate Ed Zachery the same (I wear glasses tho!!).

SmarTire (http://www.smartire.com/products/motorcycles/index.html). Why bend down to check pressures?

I agree with Dick. Accugage. I have two of them and they are really easy to use on a bike. Plus they make the small adjustments to pressure easy.

From reading your previous posts on this, I knew this was coming :)
I'll admit I'd like to have the smartire system, but:
I have a couple of reasons,
Isn't there a conflict issue with XM?
In my situation I would need 2 sets, one for the bike another for the trailer and then I would still need a gauge to check the trailer air shocks's pressure.

I also have an accugage and I love it. Mine, while it doesn't hold the needle in place when you remove it, you don't have to remove it to fill. It has an air intake so you can just put the air chuck on it and fill with the gage in place. Makes it really easy to fill! :)

Are you saying I'm getting predictable. ;)
It's just a convenient system that works. Don't know about XM, as I don't have that.
Maybe you need the auto-fill system like on the Hummers. Adjust tire and shock pressures while riding. :D

I also picked up an electronic gauge at Sears with a head that rotates to 90 degrees, so you can fit it onto the rear tire easily. I'm a gadget sort of guy so I just had to have it even though I have other gauges.

I have a RoadGear Compact along with Smartire... The Road gear takes less than .25 lbs of air pressure to get a reading and it's altitude compensated.. Mine has a tire depth gauge also...
Anything more than that and you need a tire pump after 1 sample.. After a few miles the heat rise in the tire getting it to a place you can add air will render an accurate gauge useless..
Just accurate isn't good enough... If I pay $20 for a tire gauge I expect it to be accurate... IMHO.

I'm on my third digital tire guage. I recently bought this Accutire gauge:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/customer-reviews/B00005AXI4/ref=cm_cr_dp_pt/104-5869957-0966348?ie=UTF8&n=15684181&s=automotive
It seems to require more care to get accurate and consistent reading compared to my Campbell Hausfeld AU1102 "99 PSI Professional Digital Tire Gauge," which I bought at Walmart.

Adding my 2 cents: I bought the following and like it. I believe I paid $18.
It has a solid right angle connector
It is easy to read (large guage with marks at "1") (do not need my classes)
Holds the reading after removing the connector from the valve steam
Accurate (at least for the last four months)

If you really want to spend a lot of money, try RatShack (http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2131153&cp=&origkw=tire+gauge&kw=tire+gauge&parentPage=search)
I got one for Xmas last year and scoffed at it, but it has been pretty damn good and even works in the dark because it talks to you. I understand it has the same innards as the Roadgear.

I use accugage also, with the longer hose and the pressure release button...
word of caution to ya'll on these gages since I found out the hard way...
I filled a tire with a gas station air hose...and for just a second or two but the supply pressure was so high it went over 60 psi....
IF you use the gage at a higher rating than you can see on the dial, guess what...you just busted the gage. I had to buy 2 of them (doh!!) cause I ruined my buddies before I realized what happened.

I wonder what kind of tire pressure gauge the NASCAR guys use? The announcers on TV talk about them changing pressures at pit stops by 0.5 psi. My digital gauge has a resolution of 0.5 psi - I'd want a gauge with at least a 0.1 psi resolution before I'd trust it to let me make a 0.5 psi pressure change. Anybody know what NASCAR uses ???

The air gauge I see on their site has a straight chuck, which will be rather difficult on the LT wheel rims - not impossible, but definitely a hassle. Maybe the manufacturer makes a 90 degree chuck end as an option. JM2C.

Hello Dick!
your're right
straight chuck not 90 degree as preferred by most
i use it EVERY time i ride! yes weekends, only no problem w/ straight chuck!
the neat thing is you can overfill and then bleed off excess air with this unit to correct PSI,also it clips on to the valve stem so it's hands off operation,
top quality!!!!!!
thx dave
