Brian needs to do a mod on his clutch, so we are going to have a tech session at "the ranch" to do it this weekend.

The happenings will get going at 9 am this Saturday. Anyone in the neighborhood is invited, just reply here so I can make sure there is enough food for everyone.

Address is 1207 Bell Springs Road, Dripping Springs, TX

Directions are from 71, take FM 3238 (Hamilton Pool RD) towards Bert and Ernie's (intersection of 12) - continue past B&Es, staying on Hamilton Pool for 1.6 miles. As you get close to 1.6 miles you will see two small signs on the right: "Puryear Cemetry" and "Bell Springs RD" (BSR). There is only one way to turn on to BSR, left. Turn left and go 1.2 miles. BSR is perfectly straight for 1.0 miles, then a *very* sharp right curve. After the curve 0.2 miles up a little hill and the house is on the left, white limestone w/ a white wooden rail fence. Go past the first gate and use the second gate, it's always open. You should see 3-4 vehicles, depending on who's home: white Ford F250, blue Ford Expedition, Taurus, etc.

From 290, take 12 North to Bert & Ernies, turn left on 3238 - then 1.6 miles to Bell Springs Road, turn left and follow the above directions.

Careful on using a GPS as it may try to route you over dirt roads . If you do use GPS, lat is about 30.28598 and long is 98.10070.

Attendees:
Brian
Richard

Yep, it's time. My clutch has been slipping for a while - not getting any worse, but also not getting any better. I don't want to risk a long trip two-up.
Parts should be here Wednesday.
On the menu:
1) R and R clutch, which entails taking out final drive and gearbox.
2) Install HID conversion from CQ if time permits.

I just recently replaced the slave cylinder, but didn't drill the weep hole (doh!), so if y'all want to see that now's your chance. Besides Richard kindly offered to host this tech session including lunch.
I know. I know, so much to do this time of the year.

Screw the tech session, I want lunch!

I'll be there brother man! Want me to bring anything?

BTW, If I show up in Sandy's Z4 crying (her and some gal's are going to the coast in la trucka) you'll know the GT hasn't come in yet and I'll be in some serious need of consoling.

Bring nada! I was hoping your GT would be in so I can check it out. Getting the itch for something different .

Dang me, I lied!!! I had planned on making this tech session to see how Brian gets the work done. Slipped my mind about the Key to the Hills Rod Run in Boerne this weekend. Over 500 specialty built rods on display, from all over the country.

Gives me an opportunity for some exposure toward selling the T-Bird, so I'll be parking it up near the Haupstrasse and showing my phone # and car particulars. Prolly need to stay close in case someone wants a demo ride!

Y'all have fun, and I hope Grif comes by on two wheels instead of 4 (although that wouldn't be all bad, driving the Z4 down Purgatory Rd and 32 over to Wimberley and 12 into Dripping Springs!!).

Good luck on the wrenching, Brian. Hope thangs go smootheeee - and somebody take a bunch of pix to go along with these.

Jim "Boer Goat" Sutton and I are headed down there on Friday. Bob Carreras might be there as well. We'll be camping at the Lady Bird Johnson Park in Fredericksburg

Is your Sus gonna be around? Deb kinda perked up when I mentioned getting a little saddle time but she'd need an escort to keep her from pickin up a wrench. I'd love to see Grif's Goat though I suppose I could get to it a bit closer to home.:bmw: I have

Sooo - how did the tech session go today, folks?? I checked Google earth and didn't see a dang motosickle lined up in the drive circle, Richard - you let 'em all park in the stable cuz of the rains??

Just wonderin' if the scheduled work got finished?

As it turns out, I coulda made the session, cuz the rains/drizzle in Boerne kept the T-Bird in the storage unit. Rain's didn't hamper the car show tho; and El Jeffe and Sutton dropped in for a short visit. I think they were more interested in the Boer Goat eye-candy than the street rods, tho!!

Anyway, just curious how the session went, Richard. Take care.

Hi Dick,

Missed having you here and sorry to hear the T-Bird didn't get some sunshine today! Tech session went okay - didn't get a chance to do the weep hole on Elden's clutch (Sorry Elden!!). We did get through a valve check on Elden's bike w/ breaks to help Brian beat up his bike trying to loosen some seriously stubborn nuts (no not us, parts on the bike :)). Brian's bike fought tooth and nail to stay together. There were two bolts that required a serious breaker bar (BMW part # 333 - $500.00 :p) and the strength of Bill Hoch before they would play nice. And two more that Brian finally drilled out after he put forth a valient effort w/ every extraction tool known to man !

Buster's BBQ was on today's menu - pretty good, not 5 star, but pretty good IMHO and of course the company was great. Elden rode down from Arkansas, Edgar and Deb popped in, Brian (or should I say Brain? He sure knows his way around a bike!), and Grif showed up long enough to make even my wife drool over the the GT and I must say he has already done some REALLY good farkling jobs - me likey a lot!

(PS Grif: the deal between me and the wife is no more than two bikes each so we need to convince "her" she needs the GT ;) ).

Brian needs to put in another seal on the bike (prolly a special order) so the bike is butt naked and hanging from a hoist in the shop until that comes in.

I took a few pictures that I'll try and upload tamale.

Regards,
Richard

Thanks, Richard. Y'all get a good night's sleep after all that breaker bar work!! Alwayz nice to have Bill Hoch around to play Ahnald when the tough gets goin'!!

Really glad to hear Elden rode in - hope he gets outta here before the wx turns nastier tamale.

BTW, if you're gonna be in residence next week-end, Richard - you can check out the Hard 8 BBQ with us and note a comparo 'tween their "Q" and Busters!

Thanks again, Richard. Oh - and lissen to this - a first if you and Susan had matching GTs in the stable!! Hmmmmmm!!!

Sure was a lot of fun on Saturday. Q was good, too! Dem stubborn bolts came loose once we had a heavy enough socket.. seems they was wanting to eat sockets (dang bolts 'et two of 'em before they gave up!). Once Brian came back with some heavy duty type sockets, they came off purdy easy. I'm just happy there was a vice there and I didn't break it! :-)

Kinda like sending a boy to do a man's job, eh? I warned Richard. You didn't notice the cattle prod next to the vise?

Hey Richard, thanks so much to you and the Sargent Major for the good eats. Y'all really need to get more social with us as we think you're just great!

Yep, It was a good day socially, but things sure weren't easy. Thor helped get those bolts out last time, even without BMW special tool that Richard found rusting in his acreage somewhere. Maybe we needn't some of his other powers, like lightning. Even had Bev swinginging a sledge at one stage
Something I do not understand is why I am getting transmission oil in the slave cylinder area - where you drill the weep hole. That is probably what got on the clutch. I replaced that seal two months ago when I put in Edgar's old gearbox in my bike. Thought it might be making it's way up the pushrod from the engine side, but it is too clean for engine oil, especially as I am due for a change.
Gonna replace it again and this time I drilled the weep hole!!!!!

Thanks to Richard and Susan for hospitatlity - we ain't done yet.

1. Brian and Elden taking off the rear drive.
2. What a really nekkid LT looks like .
3. Picture of the bike "hanging high" - note the "breaker bar" and sledge hammer ;).
4. Another shot of Brian's LT stripped down.
5. Elden shows of the "breaker bar" that was used to get a few stubborn bolts out!

When is reassembly?

Dunno - Brian is hoping Lone Star has another seal in stock, if so, sometime this week in the evenings. Otherwise, it depends on how long it take to get a seal if he has to order it.

And it was fun, need to do these more often!

Richard, thanks for putting on the tech session and all the hospitality you and Susan showed us. Met you, Brian, Bill and saw Edgar and Grif again. Brian sure does know his way around an LT. Very educational and enjoyable.
Left Austin at 3:15 am, made one unscheduled stop just north of Waco due to an intense thunderstorm that popped up about 5 miles up the road, ate a bite of breakfast and storm had dissipated so I hit the road again. XM weather radar came in handy. Made it home by 11:00 (Arkadelphia, Ar) without running into any rain.
Thanks a lot.

Elven, glad you made it home safe - sorry we didn't get around to the weep hole :(. OTOH, was good to meet another LT brother. Brian's bike is still nekkid waiting on a seal - after he's done, I'm thinking I'll do the weep hole and get ready to do your's next!

Cool Let me know when it's time to get working on them again. I should be able to wonder over. It's amazing how really close you are (only about 1 hour ride) to my house in Liberty Hill.

Sounds like a "weeping" party in the offing. I think, after seeing what is involved in replacing a clutch, a few guys are thinking maybe a weep hole is a good idea.
I got my my new seal. They had it in stock!! :yeah:
So I will be starting assembly tonite starting about 7pm. Prolly won't get done by tonite, but maybe.

BTW, I was in Autozone to get an oil seal puller and spied a 24" 1/2" drive breaker bar. I didn't buy it, but it would sure help if Bill or Thor are not at hand to free up those swing arm bolts. :D
