Awhile back photos went around the net of this young lady.
She hit the bricks at 100mph + with no gear but a helmet, and lived to tell about it.
Might want to wait till after dinner to read it. :(

But we all have to learn the HARD way at times.
To bad we can't just vaccinate kids for stupity like mumps or measles.

I hope her words of newly found wisdom will travel far and fast, and that others will think twice before being reckless
THE FINAL OUTCOME
My road rash will take several years to completely heal and will never look or feel normal again. I have conquered the only fear that kept me from riding and I will never put myself in the same position to receive such injuries as I have lived through this past year. I stress the importance of wearing full gear to each and every person I ride with, talk to, or even who happens to read my story. I believe that my experiences are a lesson to every type of rider or passenger. I would never wish the pain I felt and still feel today upon anyone in this world. It is completely avoidable with a few extra layers, and I can’t say it enough: it is undeniably worth it to gear up. Everything I have gone through this past year will not be in vain if my testimony is enough to save someone’s skin.

Thanks Keith,
And kudos the girl for sharing her ordeal and recovery with others so they may benefit. For some it is difficult to admit a mistake, especially in public. Clearly she is doing this for altruistic reasons.
While the consequences of not wearing gear are foreseeable in our minds-eye, the images and narrative she provided may help reinforce other's resolve to always wear the gear.

Man thats a heartbreaker....I never feel bad busting young-folks' chops about gear after reading stuff like this. Especially when my daughter was on the back of an R1, neither wearing gear..until I caught them (a few yrs ago).
I'm glad it wasn't me when young, nobody was around to say this stuff and there was no internet to look at, riding like a nut in a t-shirt.
Something to think about when we rip on young folks about their 'stoopidity'...we all learn from others from my experience as mentioned, I had no idea gear (early 70's) was for protection, thought it was for looks :)
great article, thanks, I sent it to my 22 yr old daughter...ya'll ride safe out there...geo

First I blame the rider, while I almost always take my life into my own hands when riding, I never do when I'm with passenger. Very rarely will I exceed 75mph with a passenger aboard (only to scoot around trucks etc.) while I'll go ton up, on way to the store a mile away.
Now onto the passenger, is it sad maybe for some? Self inflicted, like a lifetime hangover, or you could blame the helmet
Her words
"I felt a rush of wind hit my face like a brick and our bodies separated in an instant; my visor had come completely open. The force pulled on my face and helmet so hard that it sent my head up and backwards, ripping my entire body off the back seat with it. "

RockI think blaming the helmet is like tell the investigating officer after an accidental shooting: "I don't know what happened. The gun just went off, all by itself."

Howdy Rock,
.....Now onto the passenger, is it sad maybe for some?Yes, it is sad that someone had to endure a large amount of pain in order to learn a valuable lesson.

RockI don't see it as "blame the helmet", but them maybe I'm missing it. It just seems to be here describing the sequence of events, not blaming anyone.
In her series of posts, she really does seem to be avoiding "the blame game" and appears to be taking full responsibility for her failure in judgement. Again, kudos to her..... a young person taking responsibility for her own choices.

That chick is plain HOT!
A girl that'll take a wipeout like that and then still get her own bike? That, my friends, is a KEEPER!

Funny thing... When we went thru that heat wave for a couple of months in Nor Cal, many, many people would always ask why I was in a riding jacket, boots and gloves. Now I have something to refer them too.
Any you're right Billy... the images and narrative...

Yep - same in So Cal. My Roadcrafter was just too warm to wear. At the beginning of the heat wave I figured it wouldn't last...then realized I'd been riding without gear for a week or so....went and bought some mesh gear to get those haunting road rash images from my head!

How could you blam the helmet? The only non effected area of her body was her head, which was only saved (and probably her life) by the helmet.

I don't remember if it was here or elsewhere that I read it.
Someone proposed this gear test. If you question your gear, ask yourself; Would I run full speed and throw myself down in a parking lot? If not... time to gear up!

PS theres a guy looks like you making avitar picturesI knew you were, and I was too. My point was: Don't blame a helmet for your get-off, and don't try to blame a gun for pulling its own trigger. Rock, I've read way too many of your posts to have misunderstood what you were saying there. I'm with you.
And BTW: let's find the guy making these new avatars and fire him. He really messed up mine. Whassup w/that? :o
