Dozens of bikers have made the trip across Russia using this highway. I've even met a couple of them, and it's something I'd like to try one day. Don't think I'd try it during the rainy season though.

I work with an engineer who is Russian, sent him this and he said it is not the main highway, but a side track made to shunt traffic around construction on the real highway. He said that is how they often do construction there, just shut down the highway and cut a side track to move traffic over to.
He said he once got stuck on one of them, and a tractor hooked up to pull him through and told him that once going he would not stop, or he would get stuck too. He was scared, as mud was flowing up over his hood, and he was afraid the frame of the car was going to be damaged. He laughed and said that if the cable had broken, someone would probably just put flowers on top of the mud pile. :D
