Well ya'll, I'll be missing out on *$$ in Leon Springs Friday as well as p'cakes in Blanco on Satiddy. Got word last night that my sister count has been reduced by one so will be FJRing it to Durango for a funeral Friday or Sat. Would take the freshly serviced LT except it needs a new tire, and even though I have one on hand, I don't have time to mount/balance and check out everything before leaving. I do not do long rides on a freshly 'serviced' bike, especially when I had so much stuff off the LT.

And ya know, I do not like the LT.....from a 24k service standpoint. It is a royal (_pain_ ), to expand on Jeff's emoticons! None of the attament points for the stingray matched up well, the right hand tank bolt is a bitch, etc, etc. Just to change the aircleaner! And I haven't even started on the brake fluid change, have to have the Deacon help me with that one I guess.

Anyway, this got a little long....will miss y'all Saturday, have an extra p'cake for me, Jeff.

Sorry Russ,

You have a safe trip on that superfast FJR....
I will say some prayers for you, loved ones, and safe travels.....
Here is longer version read when you are ready.....

================================================

When Troubles Come:
Sometime ago I was talking with a very distinguished Minister who is now retired. He told me the he was eighty-seven years old, and every since he learned to read he has read at least one chapter of the Bible very day. Most days he read several chapters. He had read entirely through the Bible a number of times. I asked him, “Having spent so much time reading the scriptures, what is the one verse that you would pick out as your favorite?”

I could hardly wait to hear his answer. Here was a man who had lived more than eighty years with the Bible, Who knows it, as the saying goes, “from cover to cover”. He hesitated about replying. (During that time I thought of several of my own favorite Bible verses. I was trying to decide which one particular verse I would say is my favorite.) Finally he said to me, “You will find my favorite Bible verse fifteen or twenty time scattered though out the Bible.” He said, and it came to pass….” (Exodus 12:41, Acts 27:44 and many other places).

I was really Shocked and Disappointed. I said, “do you mean to tell me that----in all the Bible---that one dangling phrase, “ and it came to pass….” Is your favorite verse?”

As he answered me, I felt like I was being rebuked. “Let me tell you that there is no verse in the Bible that can help you more than this.. He went on, “I have lived long enough to know the truth of that Phrase, and it came to pass….” All the miseries of life come to pass. Even the joys of life come to pass. All the heartaches, the troubles, the wars, the crime—all came to pass….”

A baby is born in your home, but the baby grows up and becomes a man or woman. It came to pass…. You have your job, your work in life but it came to pass….” You marry and live with someone with whom you love more than yourself---but it came to pass….” There is an old song entitled “Count Your Many Blessing,” but they all came to pass….”

I started thinking about some of the happenings in my own life that I worried about----some of the events that I felt were very hurtful and that maybe I would not get over. Now, as I look back, I realized, “It came to pass….” I thought about some of the occurrences that I thought were of the utmost importance, but now they are not important at all. They “came to pass….”

This also applies to so many delightful and pleasurable experiences. We need to learn how to enjoy what we have while we can enjoy them, because all the pleasures of life eventually “came to pass….”

If today you feel heavy burdens and heartaches—if you feel that tomorrow is hopeless, if you feel that you do not have the resources, the strengths to make it in life—just remember, “it came to pass….” Nothing came to stay. Tomorrow will be a new day with new changes, new strengths, and new opportunities. If you really believe ”it came to pass….” Then all despair in your life can somehow be taken away.

My condolences, Bud - real sorry about your sis. Candle is lit for you and all your family members.

Lissen - you need any help putting Phoenix back together, or working on any phase of the 24K, just yell. I know you got all the tools needed, butt I got some if you run short or can't find one. I'm pretty good about having a screw loos ..... er, I mean, left over, so I'm used to searchin' for where it belongs!! Or just some moral support if you want. I know you don't wanna bring Phoenix out to the storage unit (or maybe -can't- is a better word!), but you're welcome to use the lift out there and we can grab Doug and Dave and anybody else in the 'hood to help finish up the 24K.

Thanks Dick (and Jeff, well said. Death is one of the two things we all have in common, birth being the other. "...and it came to pass.")

As for the bloody 24K, it is done with the exception of the bleeding brakes/clutch. I have to get a bleeder to do the clutch (and the brakes I guess) before I do anything else. I'm just leery of breaking into the ABS sytem whilst bleeding them. The book makes it seem simple "bleed the calipers, then bleed the (ABS things)" I have the vacuum pump and everything but the bleeder nipple and time. The FJR is ready to roll with just a quick oil change (I can do a 24k service on it in the time it takes to remove just the plastic on the LT, let alone the dang tank!)

Dick, no loose screws. Just one little funny thing, must not be critical, Phoenix runs without it.....

Dang, hijacked the pancake thread! Sorry guys, I'm outtahere!

Which way are y'all going from the Y at 290/71? If you are up by 620, then instead of going to the Y we can take a backway (and it's fun :)) using Hamilton Pool Road and then pick up 165 into Blanco. Have a looksee at the attached and me know if this sound interesting and we can set up a time to meet.

This way beats the heck out of 12 :D - think curves, no stripe for a while, and very little traffic :). Course going may be slower so would prolly need to add another 10 minutes to account for not doing 95, err, 55 all the way ;).

I am sure Tom will take some on that FUN route through the country.
There are some new bikers that I will taking down 183 to MOPAC and meeting up at the Y 290 & hwy71, shortly after 7am. There are plenty of bikers showing up so splitting the bikes up into two routes is going to be safer and FUN for all....LT Brothers do not fight we just ride and smile ! Plenty of fun for all.....I just got back from having coffee with the Boerne LTer's and on my way home stopped in Sunset Cafe for a test run on the pancakes, and to warn them about WFLT coming to town. I visited with Jennifer the gorgeous red head waiter and she will be coming in to work on her day off just for us. They are going to set up that side room pushing all the tables together just for our party. I mentioned to Jennifer we could have 30 plus bikers. Time for nap from that great breakfast. See ya early at the Starbucks.....Dick thanks for the escort through Boerne, I though it was a much smaller town...See in the AM...

Dang me - once again, I didn't get out to the parking lot in time to meet everybody before they left. Soooo - guess I'll have to have breakfast with y'all once again and do some introductions all around!

Thinking I'd surely be able to finish ONE pancake, that's what I ordered this morning, instead of the two that went to waste last time we were at the Sunset. NOPE - no joy. Couldn't finish even the one!! Man, those folks back in the kitchen sure do know how to hurt a guy's eatin' ego!!! :D

I also know not to order the French Toast. Lawdy - Eric Pahl had leftovers, as did Phyllis Fell (even with Channing's help!!). When the French Toast consists of six or eight slices of TEJAS Toast, I think that matches up with a full loaf of bread!! Whew - lotsa food .... and good too!!

Nice touch saying Grace, Jeff. And passing the sign-in sheet around for e-mail addresses wuz a good idea too. You make a pretty good host! And sweet-talking that young lady hostess into coming in on her day off, just to feed us and keep the coffee and juice bar flowing - that wuz a good thang too. I think she almost single-handed took care of 30-35 folks and never broke stride. Very pleasant too!

Thanks again to those who put this breakfast meet together. Good bunch.

BTW - there wuz a thread running this week about the various trailers available for hauling behind an LT. Someone posted a link to the *Tailwind* trailer that is made in Spring Branch, Tejas (just around the corner from Boerne). Well, when I walked out of the Sunset Cafe this morning, the inventor and manufacturer of that brand of trailer wuz in the parking lot with his Red Goldwing and matching color Tailwind trailer. I intro'd myself and axed if he wuz Tom Finch, the trailer's inventor and builder? "Yep", sez he. I said "I thought you had a blue Goldwing with matching trailer. I've seen you ride thru Boerne on ocassion". He nodded; said that wuz the Goldwing that he just totaled in an accident up in Comanche. Dog ran out from behind a cage; Tom hit him square on at 70mph, and then left the bike and slid down the road 'forever'!! Had to have reconstructive scalp surgery twice and took a pass on road rash skin grafting - healed himself! Said he thought he didn't have time to hit the brakes before he smacked the dog, butt later went back to the scene and found a long line of skid marks - doesn't remember braking; new GW has ABS now!!!

Very interesting feller to chat with, and I hope to meet him on the road again sometime and discuss his various activities involving farkles and items he invents and makes for motorcycles.

Wow - first time in a long time that I've made an RTE, lots and lots of new faces! Not to worry Dick, I didn't get to meet everyone either - so we are both guilty. Kudos to the waitress who did an excellent job handling 30 folks all by her lonesome - even kept my my coffee cup full :).

I met up w/ Brian and we headed down 12 to 165 via 290 - perfect weather. An LT joined us at the traffic light in Dripping Springs but I looked back less than a mile later and he was gone. And I swear we weren't going fast!

The ride back was good, we took a back road and swung by my house. Brian wanted to scout the shop for his clutch project in a couple of weeks. Had a soda, told a few lies and he left.

I took off to meet Kevin (the guy that just bought the K12RS) to give him a set of beads for the seat on his new-to-him bike. Seems like the seat is unforgiving to some rears. After that, I got a case of the bad bike syndrome and took Hamilton Pool RD over to 281 - came back via Old Fitzhugh by Pedernales Park.

Nice to meet some new folks and put faces with names. Thanks for a good time. If I wasn't holding out to see what the new Connie looks like, Tom would have just about talked me into an FJR !

Once again the Sunset Café treated the Beemer Bikers to another surprise crowd of bikes. I am not sure what the total count was but Steve mentioned 27 people attended. For the Cedar Chopper crowd today start at 6:30am meeting at Starbucks. Seven LT’s plus Tom’s Sharp Blue FJR and a couple other brands made the early morning coffee call. We departed in two groups, one taking the fun way and another taking the boring route. By the time we arrived in Blanco my group had lost one biker. The other group had lost four bikers. Lesson learned from this error was do not worry so much about everybody’s safety, but make sure everybody knows where were are going. My assumption was most of these guys read the BMWLT forum. The weather this morning was not as cool as expected and by the time we arrived the fog was lifting. Entering the parking lot my heart got pounding when I saw my dream bike Tom’s Yellow Duck. It must be nice to have both toys, one for traveling, one for fun. By 8:30 just about everyone had arrived and Jennifer started taking our orders. Man she is the best waiter taking care of all of us by herself, on her day off. Good thing I stopped by yesterday to flirt with her, and talked her into working today. Hope you all tip her well? Then the high quality large volume of food was served. How do they make any money? We discovered another impossible to finish entry on the menu “French Toast”. I believe everybody left on overload bikes. Once again the BMW Hill Country riders hosted the best breakfast of September. I am looking forward to next month’s busy schedule. You all stay tuned for the W.F.L.T. red carpet to roll out again, with the BMW Hill country riders. Now I need to enter all these names and e-mails so we can say in touch. See ya all at he next gathering!

Thanks to everyone who came to breakfast I think we set some kinda record for the Sunset :histerica here are the pics enjoy!! :D I had a great time but still didn't get to meet everyone Guess we'll have to do it again right Dick!!
I'm ready!!! BTW - I gotta check y'alls calendar for one of the October Saturdays - maybe the 14th or the 21st. I'm hearing suggestions from various sources about making sure the Hard Eight BBQ and Brothel is still turning out those humongous pork chops and that great Blackberry Cobbler. Problem we have is - we eat breakfast at the Bluebonnet Cafe in Marble Falls; jump on the scoots and two hours later, we're puttin' on the bibbs at the Hard Eight. Maybe we can go light on the breakfasts and just grab a coffee somewhere for a meet up; then arrive at the Hard Eight around 1100, hungry!! Stay tuned while I knock on the DFW area doors and see who's up for some "Q" and "Pie"!! :p

Lissen - the Duc belongs to Tom. He showed up just ahead of Becky and we could hear him rumblin' thru the canyons of Blanco's Main Street!!! All three blocks of it!! :histerica Beautiful bike; and spotless! Wish I'd taken more time and really looked it over - guess Tom will be riding it more, now that his shoulder has almost healed.

Hey Steve.. something about leaving food on a plate just bothers me.. Still, I had to send it back for them to clean it up... they definitely "won" that round, too.

In fact, so did Phyllis... one full silce of that "Texas Toast" is enough for a meal..

Next time we are going to share one plate between us...maybe with a couple other folks! That way we can leave bigger TIPS! hahah..

Update - I think we'll nix the week-end of 10-14/15 for the Hard Eight BBQ and Brothel RTE. That's the same week-end as the BMW Riders Rally in F'burg, and the same week-end as the Boerne Key to the Hills Rod Run. The F'burg rally usually has some 2-300 riders in attendance, and the Rod Run will have over 500 pre-49 street rods in town for Friday/Saturday/Sunday.

Soooo - we'll shoot for the RTE on Saturday, the 21st. I'll put up a sticky post in the next day or so and we'll go from there. Sorry I didn't check out the 14th week-end activity schedule.

Hey Steve did they really work this time....Nice visiting with you and Sammie today...Darn that dog whisper!

Dad told me to inform you to try this place on your vacation:
In Old Town eat at "Little Anita's" Also try the tramway way ride, but do not eat at the "High Finance" If you want to clean off the edges of your tires take the back road up to the High Finance on top of the mountain....Travel Safe that an hard first day you got planned...Be careful pushing those longer milage days...Kinda takes to fun out of the ride...

I really am sorry I missed the RTE again but I timed it so's I was sitting down to a tall stack of blueberry pancakes at the appointed time, butt in Bloomfield, New Mexico at the Breakfast King. And I finished all three of my pancakes.....

The ride to Bloomfield was interesting, left Bernalillo, NM at 5:00 am, saw temps as low as 25 on the LT readout, heated grips on high were not even cutting it. Had the seat on high, the screen all the way up, the vest on high, and still was chilled through and through! Though I was going to have to have help getting the strap loose on my helmet. But with the flip up, I could have shoveled the p'cakes in with it on I guess.

And looks like I'll miss the RTE to the Hard 8, have two events scheduled that day already! Butt, will be passing by the Hard 8 this Sat on way to Ride for Kids in Ft Worth, will stop and check it out again.

Phonenix (Cathy don't ride on the FJR now that we have Phoenix!)
And when I park in the Hawg Pen, should I also wear my "This your brain (picture of BMW logo), this is your brain on drugs (picture of HD logo" t-shirt?

Prolly not.
