Just picked up two oil kits, and 4 spark plugs. When the cost was announced, my credit card flew across the room and they had to resuscitate me, and pick me up off the floor, good thing I still had on my helmet, the cost was $90.00+

Is this normal? I didnt get kissed either.

I don't know exactly what my local dealer cahrges for those items, but I do remember them being pricey!

Here's what I've done however:
At my 6000 mile service I changed to Splitfire Triple Platinum plugs. That was a little over 40,000 miles ago. Yes, they still look great, but I did just buy a replacement set...4 plugs for $29.91...including shipping.

Last month, I ordered Bosch filter kits from BeemerBoneyard. Their kit comes as a six-pack. Net cost is $11.33 per kit...including shipping.

So, yes, you paid more. But, if you are still under your original warranty, it might be indicated.

I started using them not for any performance improvement, but the triple platinum tipped electrodes, which will last for probably 100,000 miles. That is the reason many cars, especially high end ones, use platinum tipped plugs now, for extended service intervals.

However, I did feel a little "crisper" throttle response on acceleration, not an overall power increase. I put about 45,000 miles on the first set, and only changed them out when I had the piston problem at 100,000 miles, and since I had a new set of plugs put them in when I put the engine back together. The ones I took out looked just as good as the new ones though.
