Went to use my reverser tonight leaving a friend's home and when I press the starter button the idle increases a bit then just as the bike starts to move, the idle returns to normal and bike quits moving... only moved about an inch at a time. I tried it 3 times then just did it the old fashioned way.. (years of HD training).
So, let's have some fun.. what do you think the problem will turn out to be?

Hi Channing,
this is the first time I hear that the bike moves only an inch or so. The usual symptom seems to be that bike reverses about a meter (3 feet or so) and the quits. This even makes many people think that it is a standard feature.
Anyway, I had this "1 meter syndrome" as well.
There seems to be several reasons for this. David Mack did a very good summary on the old site:

In my case the problem was the faulty reverser speed sensor.

there are several pieces to this system
a reverse control module
a reverse speed sensor
a reverse lever switch
some gears inside the trans
mine quit as well, but when I push the button my rpm starts to come up then stops and the reverse light flases bike does not move
I have not got to the repair yet, I have a reverse module to install now

Deacon,
Same thing happened to mine except that it moved back a foot or so. I'm going with the reverse speed sensor, or the associated wiring. Lonestar should be familiar with this by now.

Anyone got a pic of the location of the connector and/or the location where the wires may get pinched?

Hey Thor, have you done any work on her lately? I'd start with the connector on the right side of the bike, bottom of gas tank by the fuel pump plug in.
