So I bought my totaled 2002 LT back from the insurance company
and decided to strip her down and make her into parts,
it's been fun and I've gotten a pretty good education.
Most of y'all will probably never strip your bike down this far,
nor would you want to,
but I thought you might like to see some pictures of
what's really under all that plastic.

It doesn't look that bad - from the rear. :D When you said strip her down you meant it - you even removed the roundel from the trunk lid.
BTW, it looks like your coolant is a little low. :D

yup and made good use of it too,
what really pleased me, is my HID still worked even though the glass was busted out of my headlight lens, it now also lives on in the 05

Oh heck yea! what a chopper we could make out of that!
put a 471 blower on it two 4's or heck a six pack! and big assed wide slick on the back! 4 drag pipes right out the left side some Z bars a snake skin seat
of heck yea it would be a hoot!

I guess I should answer the questions I've been asked a couple of times already.
Where am I going to store all those parts?
I'm not sure, seems I've got 10lbs of sh*t and only a five lb bag to put it in :)
Am I going to have a garage sale?
If only it were that easy, right now I'm making preperations for a 2-3 week trip starting this weekend when we return I'll be sorting and catagorizing and hopefully selling bits and pieces here and on E-bay.
The stuff that ain't worth selling I'll be putting up for grabs for experimental projects etc.
If that don't work it goes into the trash.
If you're looking for anything in particular PM me and I'll help if I can.

After looking at all your pictures? why your bike was totalled?
Looks like it was all in one piece before you start with it ! :)

That was my initial reaction, I turned the key and she started right up,
wheels were straight, front end is straight.
But once I started stripping her down there was a lot of cosmetic damage,
Elk on the left side and pavement/ditch on the right.
There's probably not a single body part that doesn't have a scratch, scrape or cut on it.
Which is by the way the same condition we would have been in had we not been wearing the gear.
To put her back to like new condition which the insurance company is required to do would have cost over 13 thousand.
I would have pieced her back together myself but Florida salvage laws are such that it can never be licensed again, because of all the hurricane flood resale scams.

Hans, I am a bit concerned... In the first picture you show 2 LTs.
Are you sure you dismantled the right one???
Nice job! These pictures are quite an education as I never went further than removing the tupperware for maintenance and installing my HID and some electrical work.
So, are you gonna have a "let's put it back together" party?
Now that would make for a fun weekend!;) Picture a bunch of us "helping":D and beer flowing...

This has been a fun thread.
When my wife and I return from our little trip maybe 3-4 weeks depending on the weather.
I'll revive this thread with some more detailed and in dept pictures,
that way y'all can learn along with me.
