in the beginning of this I-3 Idea which BTW is the wrong number as far as the interstate system goes, it was told this road was necessary for security to bring Savanna and Knoxville a more direct route, which are two major military hubs
If it is doneunder he name of homeland security you bet your ass it will be done.

right through Deals gap, they have been survey it for some time now, some thought it was for developers, to build home on deal gap, well much of the is national forest (deals gap backs up to cades cove, thereisactualy a fire service road there, ok there was one, it is still there but closed since it;s last washout, funny no one is spending the money to repair that road at this time, after all it's the only other way out of theback of cades cove,

starting to make sense now?

all speculation of course

if so though
Say good bye to 28 [arts of 129 all the way down through the gorge to 17 then on south all the way to savanna

one other thing, got money?

buy up the rest of the property thathasn;t been bought up alreadyinthe last coulple of years by thebigmoney devlopers like the Dunn's, someting like 60 mill worth the property recently.

someone is spending BIG money now for property that only leads into national forests and a few VERY small towns.

Tom, Having some dealing now that part of WNC, I have observed a couple of things...
1. notice where the new four lane on Hwy 28 has ended, just before you get to Kickstand and the Ironhorse cut off...notice that the new four lane curves slightly to Robbinsville and then has just stopped... Why.... see answer below
2. "the road to nowhere" the broken promised... road started from Bryson City to Knoxville.... stopped 15 miles into the Park...tunnel built...stopped... Why...see letter before...
3. Smokey mountain expressway (four Lane) ... why did it start in Andrews (four lane) two lane from Andrews to SME...thru the Nanthala Gorge... why..see below...

We as nature lovers and motorcyclist that want to keep our roads... send your support and money to ....see answer below...

ANSWER: The AT (Appalachian Trail) all three roads mentioned as well as the proposed interstate cross the AT....it will never happen!

ATC's 35,000 members are active in the recreational space, with income levels in the top 25 percent of the nation. (I don't qualify :) )

Yes I see you point with the folks involved in the top 25% income level of the nation, on the other hand you have folks like the Dunns that spend huge amounts of money on land, folks with incomes or worth some 600 million that sit back with others like them and combine their resources, these are the folks that are in the top income level of what 3% of the population and know senators congressmen on local and federal levels. ya know the good ol boy system (only with shoot a measly billion or two backing them up)

Roads already cross the AT, one more will happen one day, where and when is the question. If they do this in the name of National Security well guess who is going to win.

We live in a pipe dream thinking we can preserve everything for ever, Now I'm not saying this "I-3" thing is going to go right through deals gap cause right now this is all speculation from all of us.

heck the AT crosses two roads within 10-12 miles of my house (yes I live that close to the AT) US 129 and hwy 60 plans to expand GA 400 are coming soon, it is all mapped out and has been getting it's surveying work, EPA information it right now stops at HWY60 it is planned to go right through to us 129 real close to Alt-75 they are not building that 4 lane highway just to get closer to Helen <g> the only other place to go is 75north or 129 north right over the AT again,

now none of this makes a bit of sense to me why they would spend that kind of money just to get a military connection between savanna and Knoxville 9Yes I know those are two huge military connections) but with I 40 and I 75 not that far out of the way already, I could see them making a cut through from Savanna to I-75 north of Atlanta before i could see them cutting RIGHT through a place like DEALS Gap damn I hate to know what it would cost to put a Interstate highway through there these days!

Who knows? I don't, you don't, right now no one knows if it will or will not happen.

One thing if it does, I'll be pretty old before they start cutting the mountains away and if I ever get rich I'll donate my money to my kids so they can move further away! cause ain't none of our money going to stop a project like that once "they" say yes

let me add more to the thought

lets just say for one moment that _now is when it is time for the "road team IOW Mr powerfull" to "convince" powerfull people it "needs" done.

They will start using words like
national security,
homeland security,
military resources,
local economy,
future economy.

yup I hear them now the bastards!

Mr powerfull Road team - "Gee Mr billy bob powerfull Government, look how many it will employ through those poverty stricken areas of south Ga central ga north ga NC TN for the next 20-30 years. This would give entire family's jobs to retire on!"

Mr billy bob powerfull Government -
"why that does make a lot of sense we could get more people off welfare and state aid in those areas"

<big grin>

I mean if your serious about stopping any plans of I-3
now is the time to get _really_ motivated and very serious and start spending serious money to stop any further assesment of the plans of I-3 , (ya know they have started spending a ton already right)
