At CCR this year, I held -- for the first time at a CCR -- a seminar on Digital Photography. Neither I nor anyone else anticipated the tremendous interest in this topic; the auditorium was filled, with people even sitting on the stairs in the aisles -- 100 people or more! Special thanks to Randy Prade and Bob Weir for sitting in and offering their input, and to Pete Jessen who couldn't attend, but e-mailed me a hand-out document containing his insights and recommendations.
Because of the tremendous interest in this topic, next year at CCR we plan to have an extended session (several hours) to cover more detail and allow more Q&A time.
Because many of those in attendance did not get handouts (I only made 50 sets), I promised to post the handouts here on the forum. Some of you who did not make it to the seminar (you were probably out coveting someone else's bike in the parking lot;)) might also get something from the handouts.
Here are the 5 files I just uploaded to the files section:
- Powerpoint handouts of my presentation - "Digital Photography Basics"
- "Digital Photography Workflow - Simple" to help take photos from camera to editing software to prints or internet sharing
- "Camera Tips for DSLRs" discusses some key aspects of camera settings (aperture, shutter speed, etc.)
- "Moving Beyond the Point and Shoot" which is full of tips and insights from Pete Jessen
- "RAW vs JPG" - an excellent 1-page article from Popular Photography that describes pros and cons of shooting RAW (note: my underlining reflects my personal feelings on the subject)
I hope you all found the seminar of value, and that you find these files useful as reference materials. Most important, I hope you go out and shoot LOTS of images!
