Does anyone else have quality issues with autocom cords/leads. I have the 7 pin version which I have owned for 3 years. So far two coiled headset extension leads, two headset/microphone leads that are installed in the helmets, and one cord from the autocom unit for the rider have had to be replaced due to shorts or opens in the cords? Now I admit on occasion getting off the bike and forgetting to unplug the helmet, but all that does is stretch the cord so a connector comes apart.

Autocom is the best you are the only one that has ever had a problem

Ok I lied, yes I feel the same way you do, at least the prices have come down on them!

I have the older 5 pin version and have had the same quality issues. I eventually discovered that the old keyboard extension cables work great and have given me much longer service life at mere $5 a cable, but I guess they only work on the 5 pin. I mentioned this to the reps at CCR who gave me a frustrated shrug in response. The lead that comes out of the Autocom box costs + $50 so it is well worth treating with caution. Other than that the system continues to work great - now in its fourth year.

If anyone has found other solutions to the cord issue I would appreciate knowing about it.

Yep, I also had a lot of trouble with those expensive Autocom cords. That's one reason I replaced the unit with a Baehr. Now if I can just get my headset mic to work correctly in my C2 flip helmet, I'd be much happier.

I've heard too many AutoCom nightmare stories about their expensive yet cheesy cables. That's one of the reasons I bought an IntaRide system. I have yet to have an IntaRide cable fail.

Sorry to hear about your woes Ken. Makes me rethink "upgrading" to a Baehr someday.

I guess I'm the odd man-out here..
My Autocom has been very good to me.

Also, Autocom US has been very responsive. I suggest calling them- NOT E-mail. Scot has helped with some wiring that I've done, although they were not able to solve the CB radio on the LT issue.

Hi,

I've been using an Autocom ProM1 for the last 6 years trouble free. I too and the boss often forget to unplug prior to dismount, but as yet no problems.

Now I do agree that autocom charge way too much for a cable I can buy from Maplins (like radio shack) for a few pounds. I've made a few leads for folks who have lost or broken them using parts from Maplins, you just need a soldering iron and a little practice, Oh the pin outs help,

1 to 1
2 to 2
3 to 3 etc simple

I have the 5 pin and had one replaced by AutoCom.. I have another that is starting to have a problem.. call them and see what they will do for you.. They metered mine and gave me another.. I was lucky to be in Albany NY on business and took a ride over to their office.. very nice people.. give them a call.. If you hear a crackling sound with radio off then it is that extension cable to the headset..

If you boys would stop chewing on them cables you wouldn't be having these problems. Buy some gum.

My experience echos yours. If this is the best we can get, we are in trouble.

i think I will be going CHEAP this time as well, it seems CHEAP works better,

take our chatter box X-1

flawless, not ever any issue with noise or cables,
nothing 300 bucks complete! yes includes GMRS built in the unit we have it bike powered as well. it also had a input for other devices, not sure if a cell phone works with it, (the daughter DOES NOT NEED THAT)

I wish they made a CB just like it. I would go buy it.
