I recently had my 06 LT get its 6K service. A few days later, while out riding the left mirror not only popped off its mount, but the safety strap did NOT hold allowing the mirror to bounce off the ground and into some brush on the side of the road.
Is this a common problem with the LTs? I'm a bit frustrated over the mirrors coming off their mounts.

Your mirror mounts aren't adjusted correctly. There should be a small but even gap all the way around between the painted mirror part and the body. See this thread (http://www.bmwlt.com/forums/showthread.php?t=10213) for more details.

It is not common if they are INSTALLED PROPERLY! They come from the factory uninstalled, and are supposed to be checked for proper clearance all the way around by the set up person. If they do not have clearance at any spot, they will pop off far too easily. Unfortunately, it seems most set up people just pop them on and that is it. They come with a couple washers taped to the inside to use in setup, bet yours are still there.
When you get a new one, check both to insure there is about 1/16" minimum space all the way around between the mirror housing and the fairing.
The wire spring clips have to snap all the way down into the "neck" of the ball stud. If not, it is easily dislodged.

Can the ball stud be adjusted??
I have one that looks like it just barley goes into the slot and that mirror pops off way too easy at times?
Thanks

Yours may still be there. If not, go buy some and play around with how many you need to make the mirrors mount securely.

Where abouts exactly did that happen, i need a new mirror for my bike that did not have the safety on it. And BMW wants 350.00 dollars, this way i will search for yours and get one for free. :bmw:
