Downhill Parking

Coming through Pacifica California recently I noticed an RT parked using the side stand and pointing steeply downhill. I noted this and began to muse on how steep a hill one might feel safe parking on.

Today I had occasion to park my own R 1200 RT pointing downhill. I put it in first gear and used the side stand. The bike was fine when I returned, but again I wondered just how steep a grade could I park using first gear like a parking brake and the side stand.

Any comments? Negative experiences? :confused:

I always avoid parking facing downhill - even on a small slope. It's just a habit now. Good to know it could be done if I must but I will likely conitinue to avoid it.
