Thanks everyone for your advice and opinions on a sheep skin cover for the LT seat. Now, the next question in seach of inexpensive comfort:
Anyone tried or use the Anti Monkey Butt Powder? I've used baby powder and that seems to work OK. Do we know if the "special formula" is that much different from baby powder, or more importantly, work better? My skin is pretty sensitive and I sure wouldn't want to have a reaction "in that part of town" to the Monkey Butt powder.
Thanks again for your insight!

Dunno about the powder. Best thing for the least cash for me was altering a very inexpensive beaded seat cover from Wallyworld. Firms up the seat and gets some AIR under there. Even the good ones (made for bikes) aren't much money. With the Olympia Airglide pants over shorts I may get sore but not the burn.
Give a shout if you head north.

Don't ever ride a bike with pepper spray in your pocket. Don't ask me where I came upon this piece of advice.. :o

Sorry folks but anyone who tours and rides for more than 3 to 4 hours at a time without stopping for a day or two to enjoy the reason you are out touring in the first place deserves to have major monkey butt!!!! Just my opinion but if a bike was meant to be ridden for long periods of time it would have come with a porta-potti as an option. Hey maybe someone can capitalize on that thought. Probably would have to give up luggage space though to allow for a holding tank.
Go ahead and ride your butt raw. I'll stick to enjoyable touring. :histerica

Guess that explains the low mileage on your '02. Seriously though, ride the way you want. Some of us like long rides and find great enjoyment doing so. If I have to buy a better seat or use Monkey Butt Powder to make my long rides more pleasant so be it.

My buddy just tried that stuff and said he liked Baby powder much better. I think baby powder or corn starch is the best. I think getting a good seat is very important along with getting off the bike every hour streach and hydrate. The LT is a very easy bike to just stand up on the pegs, I do this even at 70 to 80 with no problem.

Just picked up the 02 recently. Last ride was a 96 Kawasaki Voyager XII Anniversary Edition with 56,000 kms. Ya I don't put on the big miles but I also don't have Monkey Butt and don't plan to get it. Like you say it is all up to how you want to ride and that is the way I prefer to do it.
Any body else the same??????

Let's see, we should start a poll. Would the word to describe Rob's post be "moronic" or "idiotic"?

How do you get anywhere? And wouldn't the LT be a pure waste? I could ride just about any bike 3 to 4 hours without discomfort.
Not only is the the LT a touring bike, but a long distance bike. If it absolutely, positively needs to be somewhere tomorrow, yada, yada, yada.
I think your statement is seriously without merit:rolleyes: ..... unless you're retired, then it might sense.

Gold Bond powder has been working for me for years. Includes 8 hours a day as a motor officer on the worse built, biggest piece of two wheeled junk made by mankind.....HD when it was made by AMF!
Don't use the medicated kind, though, it'll burn your package.

" for more than 3 to 4 hours at a time without stopping for a day or two to enjoy the reason you are out touring in the first place"
This is the difference...I am out touring because I like "Touring". You go for a ride to site see. Nothing wrong with that, but it is not touring. I think most of us on this site like to ride with site seeing being a by-product of touring. I mean, you have to stop and eat right? So when I do, I look around also :)

Similar at least.
Living in Wyoming, there ain't much that're close by to anything. Idea of running 6 to 8 hours in a day on my LT is pretty normal. Now, if I lived in an area - say like parts of Europe - where things weren't quite so spread out - sure. Likely do fewer miles.
My ride is how I get there. Sometimes I care where I'm gong, sometimes I just wanna go.

Okay Rob, you're missing the point. This is a site dedicated to 'Luxury Touring'. If you're idea of riding is a 50 mile stroll through the mountains at 10 mph under the speed limit with the engine bogging at 1500 rpm in 5th gear you might be happier riding with the cruiser crowd. Feel free to ride any way you want but don't wish monkey butt on our a**'s because we like a different style of riding.

I'd vote for idiotic... if I wanted to travel that slow I'd be over on the HOG site. :p
Jeff... are you starting your campaign for IM-07 already? ;)

:rotf: Hey Rob, I don't wanna be too hard on a nine post noob, (welcome aboard btw) but you oughta take a look around, read a few trip reports (some +10k trips) and get to know a few of the high milers around here.
We RIDE here. Have a couple of +million mile riders, several 100k + bikes and even one 300k bike.
Yeah, we like to smell the roses too, that's why bikes are great, you can smell the roses at 70mph.

Yesterday rode from 6am to 6pm 700 miles to get home from CCR. The butt was not a problem. I get alot of knee and hip pain after 150-200 miles and usually stop to stretch and get gas. I have the beads on the seat and use ambp(anti-monkey butt powder) on my butt and feet. Works great. If I rode only 3-4 hours at a time I'd ride my K1200R!

I like it and use it when I leave my humid area. If I am just going to be running around town, I never touch it.

Everybody's entitled to their opinion I guess, though Rob's outlook differs greatly from most of us on the forum. We live for the long distances.

I'm with you Kieth - firmly in the "idiotic" camp. And I think there should be an IM award for 5 years of service - Jeff and Joe can duke that one out. :D
