Just curious if there are any members here in Japan? Seen lots of BMW cars but not many 2-wheelers so far.
I'm in Tokyo for a week and Kyoto for a day and a half, if anyone wants to get together for a Biiru, lemme know!

Ohayo gozaimasu!
I'm not there now, but I used to live there many years ago. I know it's not what you were looking for, but it's a start.

G'day, Ian - just a quick butt-in.
Yup, I've corresponded with an LT owner in Japan last year or so. He had his own website that included other LT owners, plus many other brands. He wuz real proud of a built-in GPS unit that he had designed and fab'd, and wuz inquiring as to how to merge it with the comm-system. I couldn't read his website, obviously - butt he did well with English in his e-mails. I never heard the outcome of his search for GPS integration, butt the pix he sent of the unit he made were great. Similar to the Carin unit in Europe.
Take care, Ian. Best.

Yeah, that was my thinking as well until a while back I saw some awesome Harleys that Zero Engineering builds... definitely the best in the business.
So far, I've seen one GS. Lots of 4-wheeled beemers, but not many two wheelers.
Definitely some interesting bikes around, though, mostly smaller sized engines. Saw what I thought was my high-school dream bike - a Honda RC30. Turned out to be a VFR400, but looked almost identical.
Having a great time, though, even thought the Beemer crowd is staying in hiding

Boy, do I wish, Ian. Both Cheryl and I would love to do Australia and surrounding sites. Gotta win the lottery first, then we'll be there. ;)
It is great to see some LTs from The Land of the Rising Sun. I'm thinking they are pretty active there, and I know once you get out from the metro areas, there has to be some good riding.
Hope you get some responses to your inquiries.
Best of the best to you and Lena and the 'newbie', Ian. Charge up the camera batteries, cuz we're gonna wanna see some newborn pix.
Take care, and stoke up on sleep now while you can!!! :D

Hello all,
I'm Koichi Yokoimizo posting from Japan.
This is my first posting on this site and I'm really glad to be invited to the forum by Ian.
We Japanese LTers usually communicate with each other via BBS site below;
http://www5b.biglobe.ne.jp/~k1200lt/
Around 30 LT enthusiasts are attending at the BBS site and enjoy talking and going jointly touring at sometime.
Unfortunately, our BBS site is mainly composed of Japanese Kanji characters so that most of you may not understand the articles. But, you can see some pics of our LT enjoy life in the "touring Photo" page inside the BBS site.
I'm looking forward to communicating with LTers in the world on this forum.
Thank you and best regards,
Koichi Yokomizo

Welcome to the LT web group! Some really nice pictures on your Japanese site. I have been in Tokyo a few times, but always wanted to get out to the countryside and see what rural Japan is like. The most I was able to do is about 25 miles out, and could see that there is a lot of beauty there.
Glad to see that there are some riders there who see what a great bike the LT is. Now that the new GT is out, you will probably see some of those soon if not already, since they have performance to rival some of the best high performance Japanes bikes now, something BMW has not been known for before.

Hi Rich and David,
Thanks for reply.
LT is fairy big and heavy so it is hard to ride around narrow and crowded city roads in Japan. However, once going to outer city or countryside, I always feel greatness of LT. Really comfortable a ride especially for long touring, much faster than it looks even on winding roads, easy to tandem ride, ... with enjoying Van Halen and Bon Jovi (in the case of me).
Actually new K1200GT seems one of the recommendable touring bikes and is close to Japanese high performance bikes in catalog specs. I tried the new GT once but am not so interested in it. I'm rather interested in the Honda GL1800 you know. At this moment, my most interest is about new model LT which would be coming up in around 2008.
Thanks,
Yokomizo

Hi Lurch,
First of all, I must say that your Roman-Japanese is very good and no problem!!
It's a bit of a pity to miss with you at Tokyo at this time because I work in Shinjuku placing near Shinagawa. Kyoto is one of most beautiful and magnificent place in Japan so you should enjoy strolling through Kyoto town if you have free time.
Please contact with me at your next visit to Tokyo. Will stand you a beer!
