I live near Cincinnati. There is no BMW store here anymore so I went to the nearest dealer. Big mistake. I should have traveled a few miles more to one of the Columbus or Athens, Ohio stores.

I purchased a new R1200GS from BMW Motorcycles of Louisville (Kentucky) in June.
The bike has had a serious engine problem since day one. Even BMW screws up occasionally. OK. But you would think the dealer and/or BMW would quickly and expertly fix a problem with a brand new bike. Not so. It took two weeks to get an appointment for repairs! It took another two and a half weeks to get the job done! How long should it take to diagnose and replace a defective ECU?

I’ve asked the owner to return my money. He refused and alluded to the lemon law. Guess what? Kentucky Lemon laws DO NOT apply to motorcycles.

Ohio Lemon laws DO apply.

Lesson learned: Ohio motorcycle dealers are more reputable or at least legally motivated to provide better service than Kentucky dealers. Caveat emptor.
