Extended warrentee

The US board talks a lot about extended warrentees. Does anyone know if these are available in Europe? Are they available after a warrentee has lapsed?

When my warranty ran out last year BMW offered me an extended warranty. If I remember correctly cost was around £650 a year. :(

That sounds alot, but I have spent £1300 on a clutch replacement on top of rads and rear end failier replacements in the last 12 months.
I think it would have been worth taking. 2nd hand parts (if found) are even expensive.
Not that the bike is unreliable - just expensive if something does go wrong.
Mine was in a very poor state when i got her though.

Just spoke to them. Interesting idea. They will deal with public, but obviously are set up for dealers selling bikes. e.g. they dont just do a year or 2 cover, they start policies at 3 months cover - obviously for shops saying they will garentee the bike for 3 months after purchace.
I though I would pass on everything I found out though;

Bike must be under 10 years old
AON are the underwriters
Bronze cover £500 claim limit costs £45 3 months cover upto £120 24 months cover
Silver cover £750 claim limit costs £150 24 months cover
Gold cover £1000 claim limit costs £175 for 24 months cover

At first this seems like a bit of a gamble - will the bike cost more than £175 to fix over the next 2 years? The answer, I believe, is YES!!

But does include one year europe wide Mondial assist, which is around £150 on its own.

The BMW warranty is 10 years of 80,ooo miles whichever comes first. It doesn't cover the screen mechanism, but otherwise, is a cracking warranty - I know, I used it enough on my 99.

Two complete gearboxes, three complete rear diffs, three crwon wheel bearings, gearbox oil seal, cruise control, wheel bearings...

Just had a quote for £659 for 12 months from BMW financial services, BMW don't actually run it themselves now due to a change in the law, seems to be quite a long list of exclusions on it though. Not sure, but I think I am goiing to bank the cash and use it towards repairs which I of course hope I am not going to need. Fingers crossed.

Its run by BMW Financial services, a wholly owned subsidiary of BMW GB. This is because of changes in the UK to the sale of extended warranties/guarantees that meant that only companies registered with the FSA and with staff fully trained in the sale of financial products can sell them. The government registration charges up'd the price.

All because some prat couldn't work out that buying a kettle in Dixons for £28 didn't warrant buying a 5 year warranty for £150 on top.

Personally, if my bike is wihin parameter, I'll buy, because of the potential repair costs - the rear diff is not far off £800, and that's with no labour. A gearbox oil seal is close to £650 including labour to replace. That's the warranty there alone.
