Getting the text scrolling to work with Icelink???

Allright, I've tried everything and I cannot get the scrolling text to work on my '01 with icelink. I bought the icelink two years ago and just haven't had the time to really deal with it. After many hours screwing with it today, I'm about to give up. The guy at Dension just tells me "Run the firmware update". I can't. When I plug in the ipod there is no "icelink" display. Nothing. Never was. Am I missing something obvious, or is this extremely confusing. Does someone have step by step instructions for the firmware update and turning on the scrolling text? I would really appreciate it. The instructions that Dension provides are useless.
