Hi all, (ref 02 LT 19K miles)
skinned Ol Hoss last night and found an oil leak at bottom front left corner of the engine. There appears to be a plug in the head approximately an inch behind the valve covers. Plug is about 8 mm in size and has an allen key type head. Does this plug go into an oil galley or water? I suspect oil by its location but not sure.

Note: Oil may also be leaking out of the Cam Chain cover. I intend to clean it off and then keep an eye on the leak to attempt to determine exact leak point.

Thanks
Roy

I noticed a similar leak on my 99 w/ 62k last night I found the lower timing cover screw was not as tight as I thought it should be so I tightened it, we'll see if it helped. A little oil can travel a long way at 80mph everything under the bike needed to be cleaned so I could be sure of the location of the leak. Hope this helps.

Edit/update
Just went to the parking lot timing cover is showing signs of leakage, looks like its time for a new gasket.

Havensbc,

I don't think there is a gasket on the Cam (Timing) Chain cover. I am 99% sure this is just a RTV sealant joint.

FYI: Permatex representative recommended there Ultra Grey RTV Sealant for my 85 K. According to him is was designed for the Foreign vehicles that have a narrower sealing lip than most US made vehicles. Should be available at most automive parts stores.
