I have a 2001 K1200LT and just installed a new battery. I connected the postive cables first and when i connected the negative side I noticed a small spark. Does anyone know if this is normal or does it indicate a short or drain or something else. Any info is appreciated.

Has done it to me multiple times when I have replaced the battery or disconnected the negative side for mantiance.
Each time I hook it back up even when I know it is comming I jump back
It seams to be normal, no ill effects yet.

Yup, totally normal and yes, it does indicate a drain. The Motronics and a few other items like the clock are always drawing a little current. I haven't tried to measure it but I wouldn't be surprized if at least the Motronic draws a little extra when first connected.

Big ditto, scares the poop out of me everytime. Just did my battery to an Odessey and pop pop pop.

Yes it is normal for the LT. This ignition source is always probable when working around batteries. Because of this, and personal (first hand) experience, I always wear a face shield when servicing batteries.
