How much of an improvement in gas mileage over a 2004 R1150RT?
I get in the low 40's on the interstate with bags. I'd like to get a BMW that gets better mileage than my Prius.
Happy retired guy with 32K on a 2004 RT.

I avg in the low 50s(with pillion) I think for highway riding but haven't really paid much attention to that.
frankly, im surprised your prius actually gets mpg as high as that, I know they advertise it but rarely have I seen it get it in the real world. :)

My experience is between 47 and 52 MPG the average. Usual rides are mixed, but on the highway over 50 for sure with passenger. 255 Lbs/ rider, 100Lbs/ Passenger/ bags full.

2005 R1200RT
8,000 miles, always two up, all types of roads, luggage and sometimes top bag, usually 5 miles over limit. 53.2 miles/gal. (were bean counters, it comes naturally).

Thanks everyone for the mileage updates.
I love my 1150RT and am thinking of upgrading to a 1200RT. Thanks to the message board here I think, for me, the 1200RT would be a thrill. The GT would be an overkill and the LT too heavy, however the automatic center stand would be nice, especially when 2 up.
Does anyone have any comments on the 1200RT center stand ease of operation versus the 1150RT? I'm 6', 170, and it's all I can do to put it on the center stand with a loaded bike.
I'm living my dream retired. My 1150 has been to Alaska and the 4 corners.

The RT is easy to put on the center stand, unlike the new GT.
The new GT is great and not too much overkill, wonderful 2 up. When just one won't do.

I just returned from a 1800 mile weekend trip to GA, TN & NC. MPG figured by calcutor not the bike computer. My average for the trip was 43.7. The hi was 47.7 while in the mountains on all 2 lane roads at a brisk pace. Low was 39.7 on the interstate at 80-90. Bike computer was actually very close, within 1 mpg.
MPG is very sensitive to speed. The faster you go the more it costs. The lower speeds in the mountains were obtained while mainly in 3rd gear with short periods in 4th or 2nd.
I was 1 up and I weigh 160. RT has 3100 miles on it now.

6,500 miles - overall 50.6 mpg; 47 mpg @ 75~80 mph; 56 mpg using 4th & 5th relaxing on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Computer mpg averages 3.5% high.
And the 1200RT is very easy to put on the centerstand.

Question Jim? Isn't fun worth something to you? On top of that, I bet that at a steady 80 mph on the big road, the RT does get better mileage than the Toy auto. <g>

i have 5000 miles on mine and I get with bags on all types of riding a consistent 50 MPG. If I put my Cee Bailey windscreen on in the fall the MPG drops to 45 MPG. By the way just a note. I have owned a R1100rt, a St1100, a K1200LT, and a GL1800. I believe this bike for me is the best motorcycle I have ever owned. The K1200 and the GL1800 were smoother but the R1200 is a wonderful bike.

I tested the center stand at the local dealer on Saturday. It is VERY easy to operate. One fourth the effort of the 1150RT. Also, for an old guy like me, the turn signals are self cancelling. This week a test ride.
Thanks for all the comments on the MPG.

I had a test ride today.
Compared to my 04 RT:
l. lighter and more responsive especially at low speed.
2. noticeably more power especially accelerating between 60mph and 80mph.
3. cruise control is a plus
4. stock wind screen is terrible
5. ergonomics were good (6' 170).
6. styling not so good but it felt better.
Thinking about ordering a blue 07.
