View Full Version : How do I find a close LT rider?

Howdy,
Since I am "small town", I'd like a way to find other LT riders in a 100 mile radius of me. Is there a way to search this forum for people in areas/states, etc?

I'm looking for folks over 60 as I'm 66. I see most of you posters are much younger. I just don't fit in. We OLD stiff guys stop more often than most. You know, to relieve ourselves, coffee, stretch, and of course to see the view along the way. Stop to smell the roses, if you prefer.

I ride somewhere most everyday and end up back home. Ain't life GRAND!

Thanks in advance. :bmw:

Vern,

I can see by your profile your from King City MO - about 70 miles north of KC.

I personally don't know anyone in that area but by posting the info maybe someone will.

You could also try checking out the frappr map (under the "Member Info" menu above). Of course, that only works if people have added themselves. Also, you must look right under the map to see how many pins are showing and click the "show more" link, if needed.

Go to the member map on the home page or

http://www.frappr.com/bmwlt and see who lives near by.

Vern - lessee if this'll work.

Go to the Member Info 'clicker' above your post and click on *Member List*. When that page shows, click on *Search this forum* box near left side of the page and then when the menu drops down, click on *Advanced Search*. Now, fill in the blanks that you know you wanna use. I just did "Kansas City, MO, USA" and got several hits. Of course, you can repeat this several times and enter different cities in your area of interest. And of course, if folks there haven't filled out their bio info as to location, then you're gonna miss them. HTH.

Well first off define close, or you may be in for some serious riding, close to some is 500-700 miles, others might be 1500 <g>

Second over 60? i thought most everyone on this board was over 60 (or is Lynn the exception and not the rule)

Brakes work to good!

The only ones that came by that couldn't stop were non BMW riders. LOL. Been to several bike shows in my 100 mile radius and not one BMW was present. Ugh!

Oh well, I'm having a blast. Just took a 60 mile ride. No bikes out on a wednesday afternoon. :bmw:

Hi Vern!

Well, I am not within your 100 mile radius, but am close enough that if some Saturday this fall, after it cools down, you wanted to meet for lunch, I'ld be game. Maybe west side of KC, Lawrence, or Topkea area...

In the mean time, Welcome!

the KC dealership might be able to put you in touch with some riders. Absent that, PM me and I will give you the name and phone number of a KC friend who rides a GS, but will go anywhere, anytime.

Don't forget to post in the regional forum as well. Missouri - that's somewhere in the mid-west, right? (Just kidding, but I don't know how to use one of those smiley face thingys to show it!) You can probably announce a ride on a weekend starting someplace close to where you live and people will ride to join you. Good luck.

Vern,
I ride an LT, live just S. of KC, drink coffee, like to stop and pee, and take the backroads around the Heartland. In fact we meet up with another couple, for a breakfast ride up in Weston quite often. ( They have an LT also) Im not over 60 but over 50. We'll have to take a ride sometime.

Just another example of today's younger generation! I was always taught to respect my elders but I guess some folks missed that class! :~(
Now, if you'd like to appologize, you can help me celebrate my 66th on the 28th at CCR. A little JD on the rocks would be nice!

I just knew there were some LT riders with in the 100 mile radius of me.

I go right past Weston everytime I visit the Leavenworth VA.

Drop me a line when you think you'll have breakfast there(Weston) and I'll show up too. It's about an hour ride from me.

I'll send you a PM.

Hey Vern,

First sunday of the month, fill the appropriate fluids and drain the others, then head southwest to the metropolis of Cassoday, KS. It's between Emporia and Eldorado right off the turnpike but stay off it - the backroads there are some of the best in KS. First sunday of the month is a bike-in breakfast and goes from 20 bikes in January to 1200 in the summer. There's a good mix of everything, vtwin, sportbikes, antiques, dirtbikes, you name it. Usually a few beemers make the trip from KC, although with a dealership in Wichita there may be more now (I haven't been there since I moved 5 yrs ago).

State Rd 177 south from Manhattan through Cottonwood Falls takes you right into Cassoday - Prairie Chicken capital of the new world. It's a nice ride.

It'll give you a chance to use yer new Jpegs!

Lurch,
Thanks........is there some one to contact or just show up at Cassody?¿??

update!

I'm thinking of being in Columbus, IN this thursday evening at the Travel Lodge at exit 68. Maybe we could meet for a chat! I'll give you a buzz when I get in the area to see what you're up to.

I'm to get my new rear tire on tomorrow and if that happens I'll goooooooooooo!

My brother lives in Columbus and I'm going to surprise him.

Vern,

lurch102 was dead on with the Casssoday tip!!!!!!!!! I used to live in Cassoday, and another thriving Kansas metropolis of Leon. The roads are great, and the bird hunting is even better. I have heard of the bike-in, but I haven't been back to Cassoday in 10 or 12 years.

WOW, once again I am amazed by the knowledge of this group!!!!!!!!!

I believe that someone on this site could hook you up with a snowman in the Sahara, if you request it on a post..

As I said before - You guys are fantastic.

John,

Yep, I had no idea I would get the results that I have from this question.

I've NEVER been involved with such a great site. Unreal!!!!!!!!!!

Next month, I'll be at Cassody just to see what's happening. It'll be a great ride, for sure. I may stop in Perry at relatives on the way or on the way back.

I'm going to end up with more places to go than I'll have time and money to go to that's a day trip or a little longer. Yeehaa, is all I can say!

John - the day you moved, the population of Cassoday dropped 33.3% !!Jeanine _____ (the hot pilot girl from Northern Exposure) has an autographed picture on the wall in the cafe - she was there for the rodeo one time. What are the odds of someone on here living there? "It's inconcievable!"
I lived in the Hesston/Newton area for way too long myself. Only chased (from a lawn chair near some leks) prairie chicken/rockets one time but I go back and hunt pheasant and quail every year way out west as well as just north by Goessel.

Vern - I'll shoot you my contact info again via email with regards to Thursday. And Cassoday's just a "show up" type of thing. They have a buffet in the cafe and usually somebody got coffee and donuts outside.

Bingo! That's her!

For my money, she's got Britney/Jessica/whoever the latest hearthrob is beat to heck. She's just got the classic beauty and grace that you don't seem to find these days. <sigh>
