First day, first post! I surfed the old site for information forever before realizing the threads moved here... :bmw:
I have learned much already. I have fogging problems with my windshield, but it appears there are some suggestions from you to prevent/fix/replace that.
My real problem is this: my windshield had a little encounter with the parking garage wall, and it turns out the wall won. It's not bad. The only thing that happened is an arm on the assembly (the windshield mount that the motor for raising and lowering is connected to) broke. Just the little arm connected to the hex rod. Can I buy just that part? The dealership I visited said I had to buy the whole motorized assembly which costs an arm and a leg! My grandpa (who is an aluminumsmith) might be able to make one if I can't buy it, but seriously, do I have to replace the whole mechanism for one 2" arm? If I can buy just the arm, where from?
It's sort of a long shot that anyone might've had the same exact problem. Just a warning in case you have never had problems with this mount: the assembly is very expensive.

BMW sells the windshield lift unit as one piece. I had to replace mine last year do to a similar enocunter with the garage wall. As I recall it was $468.00 plus installation. What a deal!! Look on eBay as they sometimes become available there. If not, try www.Beemerboneyard.com Good luck and welcome!

Awesome stuff Brian! I can't believe there is no way to replace each individual arm without manufacturing your own.
I checked out the BMW boneyard site and it turns out they do in fact sell sub-parts of the windshield assembly. I have the fairing off in my garage already, so I'll pop the assembly out and see what I can buy that'll save me the cost of the whole assembly.
Thanks for the great advice! :thumb: Appreciate it

That's a steal, even though I don't need the whole unit, it would be smart to replace the whole thing for that price. Do you suppose the '00 fits the '03 body?

yep it will fit. When I bought my bike used it came with a spare but broken w/s assy. Since then My bike has contacted the garage wall twice. Each time breaking a different piece. I am down to the just the motor now. So save your spare parts!

So save your spare parts!Or stop parking by leaning the windshield against the wall. :)

Golly!
My LT had an encounter with the wife's BBQ grill with the same results as you. Broke 3 of the arms off. Which arm do you need? I think the top 2 are the same and the bottom 2 are alike. If I have the one you need, I'll send it to you for the cost of postage. If you do end up buying, try Chicago BMW, if you ask, they will give you a discount. Matter of fact, you dealer might give you a discount if you ask. I sometimes ask my dealer for a discount and he almost always comes across with one. Not always, but usually. I have asked for a 10% discount and was given a 15%, on occasion we split the difference. Ask.

Got my assembly (minus motor) at Beemer Boneyard, $100 and change, if I remember right. When I went on the website they had sold the last one they had in stock. I emailed them, got a reply that night that they just got a shipment that day that included 2 assemblies, had not got them up on the website yet, did I want one? Had it at my house in 3 days. Good customer service.
