I wrote these notes the day after I got back. Short but sweet.:)
Left Sacramento, Ca. on June 26th, returned July 26th.
30 days gone with 12 being on the road.
8091 total miles.
675 miles a day average
100 degrees average. Lowest was 77 degrees (evening) and hottest 114(Phoenix).
Shortest day 420, longest 930.
Best 3 days distance was 2380, Denver, Co. to Dover-Foxcroft, Me.
Another 3 days distance was 2220, Manchester, NH. to Amarillo, Tx.
Drank almost as much water as the LT drank gas. Gas was high everywhere.
Never got dehydrated once but was exhausted at the end of many hot days.
Ate lots of little meals.
Didn't drink alchohol the night before riding.
Eight hours of sleep was imperative for me.
My best days were when I left at 9-10am. I could ride longer into the evenings and not be exhausted by 6-7pm.
Actual miles per hour after stops and rests was 62. I could always calculate where I'd be in let's say six hours, 372 more miles down the road.
Speed was kept at a respectable 5-10% over the limits.
Didn't worry about speeding tickets, just the moving forrest of multi ton rolling Gorilla's, our friends, "The 18 wheelers." My unofficial count would put them at about 250 to 1 on the interstates. But seriously, I respect them and their tough jobs and way of life. It just seems america needs a lot of stuff.:D
Rain was one thing I steered away from.
I went where the wet weather wasn't.
I had just 10 minutes of rain in over 8K miles.
The saddle, seat, rear end, butt, legs, circulation and ache.:p I thought about these things a lot. With stretching and hanging off and calisthenics and taking lots of quick stops, I overcame the pain.
Just be relentless was my thought.
Just ride It! hehe
Oh, and I almost forgot, I didn't have any mechanical problems. Some small failures , nuisances and minor worries, but the LT limped home real good. Just like my 2 other ones used to.:)
I came back last Wednesday from Blythe, Ca. I tried very hard to make last weeks HDDC but could only make it to Tracy, Ca. (sister) by 7:45pm. I came the long way because I was so tired of the hot weather at that point, I went straight for the ocean early in the day.
I had a meeting in Phoenix on Tuesday, that's why I came home that way.
I didn't have my laptop since leaving Maine on the 17th. My sister in Dover inherited it as her home computer was just a little outdated. I've managed to live without one since then up until this post. I haven't read anything here in weeks.
I just found a nice little apartment in Carmichael and will have internet by Wednesday. I'm at work now.
I really need to get my LT in to A&S. It needs some TLC for sure.
I'll be at this weeks HDDC on the GS. I'll bring my crazy map for those interested.
Sure is nice to be back. I missed this place and my friends.
That's all for now. I'm exhausted just thinking of that trip.:)
