Heading out for New Orleans tomorrow. Taking my time, doing a little camping along the way. By myself. A little me time. Visiting my Dad for a couple of days. Haven't been down since Katrina. That will be emotional I am sure. Not even sure of the route. Just going to try and get in some good sights along the way. Maybe hit the Great River Road or the Natchez Trace Parkway. No interstates for me for any reason. Planning on taking lots of pictures. Life is good.

about the bugs.. you might want to carry a damp towel in a ziploc for cleaning the windscreen.. and your favorite bug-gutz-cleaner (mine is a Downy Dryer sheet with some regular car soap and water..)... because I can guaranteeee the winshield scrubbers at the gas stations will be too funky to use on your bike.... you won't want to smell it as you ride...
N.O. is "open".. but carry your own food, there is almost NO "fast food" available due to the export of the slave labor force.. er... "service sector personnel"....sorry.
I have family in the area so if you get in a bind, let me know, I'm pretty sure we can get you some assist from them or Nogills or Ltsaddledance or..
Take your camera, stop often.. you won't recognize a lot of the city... be safe...

I live in MS about 85 miles north of N.O. The bugs are not a issue right now, I think you will be ok. Have a safe trip and I would suggest the Trace.

hahaah... yeah, I hear they like the "spanish" influenced architecture and keep mumbling something like ET in Spanish "Casa, Casa, Casa, Mi Casa"
My Mom's family (Rodriguez) is from Spain and New Orleans... been in US for serveral generations... and we only speak English... I suppose it's the Conquistador thing..

I landed safely last evening. Great trip. The LT performed perfectly. The heat was rough a couple of days but the LT kept right on humming. No incidents to speak of. Thank you Lord. Excellent time spent with just my bike. Oh, and a nice couple of days with the parents in NOLA which looked pretty good I thought. She is coming back slowly but surely. Rode the Great River Road and some of the Natchez Trace Pkwy. This is a beautiful country.
