Could you provide some feedback on this model? Pros and Cons, I'm used to the K series, but would like to try the R model.

Any thoughts.

I have the utmost respect for K bikes but very little experience with them. I had an R11RT several years ago that was an outstanding motorcycle. After being away from BMW for a few years, I bought an R12RT a few months and several thousand miles ago. The first thing that I noticed about the R12 was that the ergonomics were familiar and I felt back home again in ... (you don't want to hear me sing! <g>) The second thing that I noticed is that the R12RT is an entirely different and superior motorcycle in every way. With every mile I ride it, I find more reasons to love it.

Having gushed and praised the RT, I must say that the K12GT is faster and you will probably hear the same type praise about it. Some like the oil/hex head 2 and some like the 4.

Ride 'em both, then decide.

You gotta ride it. I loved the handling of the R12RT but hated everything else, it just didn't fit me. The K12S fit perfectly and handled well, but not as effortlessly as the RT. At any rate, what do I know, I didn't buy either and am really happy with my LT. You'll probably find more info and get more input on the RT on bmwsporttouring (see links to left on the home page). Good luck.

Subject: GT Impressions and Demo Team at BMW MOA

Just wanted to pass along how great it was to deal with the Demo Team at the BMW MOA rally this past weekend!

Deborah Heather and the rest of the team greeted us warmly and professionally with plenty of smiles @6:15 each morning. Brock's ABS demo drove the safety point home even further. My '05 KLT is that much safer to me because of the demo having witnessed it firsthand on grass.

After Saturday's demo ride of the GT, (I also drove the RT on Friday), I forgot to hand in my pink feedback slip. Probably because I was jumping up and down with joy when I got off! Loved the KGT's wistfull quality!! I was smitten. Everything refined, smooth-flowing and light as could be by LT measures. I was in identify crisis mode, and probably still am, when I reluctantly shut off the key. Did I really have to get off?

Thank you guys....you made my weekend.

I am partial to the K series, and have owned two K bikes previously. Maybe I will just stick with the KLT and be done with it. It's difficult to go from something you know well and like, to the unknown.

Regretting a poor decision is not to my liking.

The only K Bike I ever rode was a 1992 model that my friend owned for ablout six months. I was impressed with the power, but the throttle was extremely touchy. Seemed like the bike wanted to go as fast as it could regardless of input from the rider.

I own a 2005 R1200RT and it is the best all around bike I have owned. It is powerful enough for long distance touring on Interstae highways, yet fun to ride when the road turns curvy.

I just returned from the BMWMOA Rally in Vermont and I was very pleased with the way my RT handled the backroads in Vermont. I thought we had some fun roads in NC, but the stretch of route 17 from Waitsfield to Jerusalem was very exciting.

The RT is great and really fun to ride. Mountain riding 2 up, would be allot better with more HP. As the new GT has the power for 2 up riding in any condition. The RT has much better windscreen coverage and body protection. I must admit that I think the front suspension is a vast improvement on the new GT. I have taken both bikes out on the same road at the same time to test. My RT came with Bridgestone tires and my GT came with Metezler's. Scrap the Bridgestones ASAP. Do ride both for awhile if you can, take them to the mountains for testing. Power vrs light weight is a question.

Rode my brother's new RT a short distance last weekend, and the ergos are a serious problem for me. I was in pain after only about 25 miles or so. I ride an LT, and handling wise it is a pig compared to the RT, but for comfort reasons, guess I will stick with it.

Regretting a poor decision is not to my liking. You really have to ride them all to make an informed decision. I have had two K bikes and one R and loved them all when I had them. Lately I have been on V-Twin Ducatis and Harleys but I have a renewed interest in BMW.

I actually liked the KS more than the KGT but still prefer the "character" and "feel" of a twin and am leaning toward the RT. I need a few more demo rides to seal the deal and find this site very helpful in getting back into the Beemer scene.
