I found out the hard way that the gauge is pretty accurate! Ran out of gas on a rural road in Ohio. I was sure that there would be a gas station with-in fifty miles.....there wasn't. I was two miles from a town with a gas station when it started sputtering. Luckily, there was a farm house with a light on (9pm ish). After some persuasive talking, the farmers daughter... (just kidding)....the farmer let me syphon a gallon of gas out of a tractor while he held a flashlight for me. 87 octane taste cheaper than the good 92 octane stuff I'm used to!

I'm on the rebound now. Left Ohio this morning and am laying over in rock Springs Illinois. total trip miles so far...3545. Will make Rapid City tomorrow night hopefully....If the weather holds out.

Wayne you make me laugh all the time. THANKS! I can picture you walking up to that farm house and at the same time I think I hear dueling banjos.....

How was the family reunion? Did you stay long enough to see everyone or was it about the ride?

Ride safe, See you when you get home.

I found out the hard way a few weeks ago myself. GPS told me a gas station was down a road and the computer told me I had "-----<" miles left. Lucky for me there was a CDF station down that road that gave me plenty of fuel.

Have fun on the rest of your trip.

The reunion lasted about 4 hours. The trip to Cedar point was worth the ride. They have a ride called "Top fuel dragster" Launches you from 0 to 120 MPH in 4 seconds and then about 400 feet straight into the air. AWESOME! Then we went from 120MPH to 0 the next day....churned butter in Amish country. It's been fun so far. I'm dodging thunderstorms at the moment. I have a couple days to work with if it gets bad. I'll wait it out in a waffle house..... I'll be scattered, covered, smothered, diced and chunked (love those hash browns!)

Rob,
I got you down for an advanced copy. I made it to rapid City SD tonight. Put just over 900 miles on this leg. I'm taking tomorrow off to putter around the Black Hills. It's been 22 years since I've ridden here.

I'm sleeping in late and taking it easy tomorrow. I wonder if I can make it from here to Sac in one day...Hummmm?

I haven't had any ss1000 Days but I did just get in a BB1500 (1500 miles in 36 hours) I didn't bother to document anything so it's unofficial...It's just cool to know I can do it.

You and Bushwacker be careful! people drive crazy! I'll expect to see updates from the road. Don't forget your siphon hose....just in case

But if you're well rested, it's a challenge. Just know when to quit. We want your book to have a happy ending! ;)

I spent the entire day riding in the black hills...Hot...Hot...Hot! Sturgis is already starting to Buzz with activity. The Local Harley shops working 12 hour shift to keep up with the demand. Mt. Rushmore charged me (and everyone else) $8 bucks to park. The alternative was to go back to the last town I past and walk back. They kinda got you by the 8alls! I didn't recognize Lead and Deadwood. It's turned into the worst kind of tourist trap and ruined the backwoods feel it used to have. That's progress I guess. Since I spent all day in the saddle, I'll take my time tomorrow coming home. two 700 mile days shouldn't be to bad. That'll give me Sunday at home to rest up for work Monday. :(
