I have a 2002 KLTE. I would like to listen to MP3's and XM using the Garmin 2820. I am using a 3.5mm stereo cable. As soon as I plug in the cable to either the Garmin or com system, there is a loud constant humming noise. I tried using Garmins different mode, headphone and line out, neither one worked. I also tried using the Garmin 2730 with the same result. Not sure what is the issue.

Anyone out there with a Garmin using the Aux port on the com system? I have the BC3.

Sounds like you need to get a ground loop isolator, check at Radio Shack or

What kind of isolator did you use? Where did you install the isolator?

Autocom sells a cable with a ground loop isolator built in, that should also work,

I tried the ground loop isolator on my Garmin 2730 and it fixed the issue. Unfortunately, it does not work for the 2820. It improved the quality slightly.

Any other suggestions?

I just recently installed a 2820 and have the noise referred to in this thread. Has anyone else had this humming problem? Does anyone have any other possible fixes?

Thanks in advanced and Happy New Years to all.

You can't always fix a hum problem with filters on the audio line between devices. It might require a filter on the power side of the GPS, as the noise could be on the power input and passing straight through the unit.

Has anybody found a solution to this? I just got my 2820 tonight and i'm having the same buzzing sound mentioned

FWIW...During the winter, I use my 2820/GXM-30 indoors connected to my computer to listen/record XM music. When I initially connected it to my computer, I had a similar buzzing sound. I eliminated the buzzing sound by changing the AUX Output Audio Jack software setting from "Line Out" to "Headphones."

To access the setting from the main screen: SETTINGS - GENERAL - AUDIO - DOWN ARROW (for a second screen) - AUDIO JACK: and select HEADPHONES.

The 2820 works fine on my bike using the AUX output, albeit it is connected to the Voice II on my bike..
