Just thought I would give a breif report on my trip to Ohio. Left Vacaville on Monday morning heading east on HWY 50. Rode to Green Valley Utah (830 miles) the first day. HWY 50 has to be the loneliest rode in America! I set the cruz on 94 thru Nevada....somewhere while in a heat induced trance, a highway patrol officer was kind enough to confirm that my GPS speed was accurate with his Radar (94mph  )! When he figured out that I wasn't wanted for any crimes, he gave me the concerned warning and let me go..(It was officialy hug a cop day).

Left green River Utah after about 5 hours of sleep and made it to Winfield Kansas (Still on HWY 50) about 850 miles for the day. Stopped for the night then on to Branson with a short leg of about 240 miles. Taking the day off today with Grannie, then back on the road in the morning for another 860 mile leg to Youngstown OHIO. It's hotter than the sun out here! I would estimate the average temp for the ride to be around 97'ish. 108 for the high and 56 for the low. I picked up a gell cooling vest a few weeks ago for $30 on line. WOrks great. I carry a small cooler with ice and water. It starts to dry out after a couple hours so I'll soak it in the cooler at gas stops for a couple minutes....Back in business!

The bikes running like a champ, the Micro HID's are a life saver at night (Thanks Raffy and Rich). No major potholes or road obsticles encountered. My biggest concern is deer, but been lucky not to see any yet. Funny how you have time to contemplate all the shortcommings of your seat on these rides... I've sent Ron some suggestions. We'll keep you posted.

Roger....Looking for the update? How your trip going?

Howdy Wayne,

Got to love those Nevada LEO's! Anything in the low triple digits and the odds seem to be about 50/50 for a warning ... :o ... :) ...

Stay safe and keep an eye out for them "horned rats".

...... micro HID's...... hmmmmm  I think I'm falling further and further behind ;)

You're getting pretty close to 1000 mile days. Perhaps you should register for a leg or two on the way back.

Good idea to take a rest day after all those miles. They catch up with you. I was wondering how well the vest worked in humidity. Ours worked very well on our trip to the rally a few weeks back. We noticed they don't work as well without a mesh jacket over the top. Seems to hold in the "cool." http://www.clicksmilies.com/s0105/natur/nature-smiley-12.gif

Take care and stay in touch!

Billy, until i get a "Wolfgang" in the garage, I'll always be behind! I did almost take out a rattler in the road on the first day. No dear yet, but I saw some Mountain sheep coming thru the pass in Colorado... pretty cool.

Bob,
I took a rest day in Branson today, did some sightseeing and ate a regular meal. I'm back in it for another 850 mile day tomorrow, then I get a two day rest before doing it all over again coming back. I haven't hit any real humidity yet, so I can't say how well the vest will work. I have to speculate that it'll be much less effective. I've been using the neck cooler as well and the combo has worked great so far.

Next stop...Youngstown Ohio!
