View Full Version : Announcing: Ohio Tech Session II

Jul 17th, 2006, 3:04 pm
Back by popular request, it's another Ohio Tech Session!
Date: Saturday, August 19, 2006
Time: 9:00 a.m. Arrive sooner if you want to. Arrive later if you need to.
Location: 4735 Gun Barrel Rd. NE, Rushville, OH. Fairfield County, about 1 hour SE of Columbus.
Selected info repeated from the previous tech session announcement:
1. It's a very rural setting, on 3 acres surrounded by farms with just a couple of houses nearby, and 15 minutes from the fabulous Hocking Hills. Did you like STC II? You'll like the Hocking Hills. Same roads, just smaller hills.
2. 30x40 detached garage, with concrete floor, electric, hot/cold water, lights, FRIDGE, 4 overhead doors, 20x52 concrete patio (10x40 under cover), and a LIFT (courtesy of Jim Sciullo).
3. Gravel drive leads from a paved road to this building. The gravel is very stable and compacted until you reach the bottom of the drive, 50' before the building. Watch your step. Ride right onto the concrete apron and park it in formation for picture-taking after lunch.
4. Plenty of room for tent camping if you want to stay overnight. Closest hotels are in Lancaster, about 15 minutes away.
5. Door Prizes: We had great door prizes last time. I won't ask our local dealer to be as generous as they were last month, but I will ask them to throw in a couple of goodies. I also have some items in mind that I will contribute.
6. Lunch will be served, catered by my catering wife, a fabulous cook. I will ask for donations to offset that expense, please. (Yes, Rock, those baked beans will be served again!)
7. Riders of all brands and models are welcome. A special GT parking area will be provided -- in the woods behind the house. ATV shuttles will bring GT riders to and from the Tech Session. :D
No ideas yet on what work is to be done. If you are attending please reply by copy/pasting my name, site name and work into your reply; add your name and any services/installs you are thinking about doing or having done.
The line forms here:
Howard Schisler; hschisler; remove top case (I know it's lame), oil change, run Icom power cable and PTT cable to Baehr intercom, program Icom radio

I'll be there. But don't worry about special GT parking. There will only be one showing up. Every attendee will want to be as close to it as possible, in order to checkout what a real sport-tourer looks like. Just keep the drool to a minimum please! :D

At Top of the Rockies, I should have put a "viewing fee - 1 beer ticket" jar on my bike. I could have gotten pretty ripped with all the eyes on the bike.

Do you have a special wider entry door for the GTs there....those heads are pretty big I suspect... :p

Could be problematic now. :D
In an ideal world at least one other GT will show up, taking all the attention away from Joe's bike. :D

And don't worry, I'll let you lead for a bit. I find it boring to always lead, or always follow. I enjoy changing positions...as it changes perspective.
Besides...how else will I be able to effectively criticize your riding skills unless I follow you for awhile? :D

Well, we are going to try to make this one. Any other women going to be there besides Howard's wife and would she (Howard's wife) welcome any help? Mostly there to meet and help as able. Plus haven't been to the Hocking Hills for a few years. I will maybe do a canisterectomy on my bike if the materials and time are available.

So far your wife Judy is the first lady on the attendee list. She's welcome, of course! There was a good bit of discussion of this topic in the original Tech Session thread. (the general discussion was: will wives be bored at the Tech Session, etc.; I provided a list of interesting things to see and do in nearby Lancaster if they don't want to watch the wrenching). Lisa will have most of the things already made on Saturday morning and will welcome the help in carrying the goodies from house to barn, setting up, clean up, etc.
Are you spending the night somewhere close, and then riding in Saturday morning? We have a big yard if you want to camp. Very rural and quiet (except for tree frogs, crickets, and cattle in a nearby pasture).

We'll be staying with our daughter in Gahanna. Thanks for the offer though. My wife would come because she knows how much of a burden us men can be on them there women, and she likes to help. Not so worried about her being bored. If Lisa doesn't mind company, Judy would probably like to tag along, however, she WILL NOT watch the wrenching uh-uh:sleep: (http://misc.php?do=getsmilies&wysiwyg=1&forumid=0#)

Otherwise...it's probably very doable.

... Howard, you still planning to build that new garage for Joe's GT behind the gun range? I dont want his bike to make mine look like crap. The facility you were in last month for the Tech Session IS the new garage. And besides -- and I mean this quite literally -- I've seen your bike and I've seen a GT in blue (like Joe's). As much as I'm starting to like the looks of the new GT, I like the LT a lot better, visually.

Not a problem taking it back to the dealer for the mentioned items. Fluid changes (oil not needed - just did that) would be fine. Would we be able to adjust the valves if needed?

Last Sunday we had a map party with the guys I am supposed to be going on a ride to Yellowstone with (dudes i have never ridden with except a guy from work with a new Bulivrd ) on Aug 19th.
No routes, no reservatations, not one map was flang up on the table, no firm time to leave, no destinations except "Yellowstone".........the biggest topic was discussed what kind and how much hooch to put in the unigo that one of the dudes was going to pull behind his HD.
YES Uncle Rock they are using the hitch for the manure spreader so no wrenching is required before departure.
I asked them how far west any of them had been "illinois" "missouri" "ohio"
(mind you we are in INDIANA)
Looks like I am going to the Tech sesssion.........

Please update the list with his name if he confirms he's attending.
And to all who are out there: like last time, if your plans change at the last minute (or you decide last-minute) don't stay away because you didn't "sign up". Plenty of extra food, room for your bike, and things to do.

Let me first apologize for the illiterate drunk that must have hijacked my PC and made the unreadable post from Mike. He tried to tell me he was in a hurry, but I think otherwise. Although the content of his post is accurate, it is my belief that one would have to be in a similar state to understand the post.
So lately when I hit 'new posts' 4-5 pages are listed instead of one. But I digress-to answer Jims question the lines would be :
Benelli- an Italian manufacturer of really exotic sportbikes currently without
a dealer in the USA although the bikes are here.
Hyosung- a Korean company with a full product line (they do most of Suzuki's ( R & D) and are under represented in our county.
Husqvarna-we all know them, but now most all of their bikes are DOT
approved for street use.
Sooo busy--but tomorrow its off to cabins and lakes in way northern Minn for walleye, smallies, northerns and a possible muskie. The best part will be to hook up my two sons and my wife with some big fish, something they have not experienced yet. While doing this I will consider my business options occasionally...I must decide before I return.
I see y'all at Howards.

MikeMike, that's excellent. Let us all know what your big decision is. Looking forward to seeing you on the 19th. Hopefully Rock will be there to "knock some sense" in you. :D

Harold,
I am trying to get my work in order to take Friday off before, and ride perhaps to Lancaster for the night so I can be there bright and early to get all the info I can. I am nearing my 12k and want to know how to do that.. and perhaps we can debug my buzz when gps is connected to Autocom.. I probably will bring some filters and such to try if we have time and I actually can show up.. WILL KNOW SOON..
PS.. have any god ideas of hotels in Lancaster? Bill.

PS.. have any god ideas of hotels in Lancaster? Bill.Hi Bill,
Hope you can make it. I think we'll have enough technical resources on hand (i.e., Joe) that you can get help with your 12k service and GPS questions. We'll have 3 garage bays available, plus outside space (under cover), so everyone should have room and time to get their work done.
Hotel choices in Lancaster are slim; it's a city of 35,000. There is a Holiday Inn Express, a Rodeway Inn, and Shaw's Inn -- a nice little hotel in the heart of the downtown, with an upscale restaurant. There might be another chain hotel across the street from the Holiday Inn and Rodeway Inn. These 2 are located near the mall as US 33 enters Lancaster, and are about 20 minutes from my house. Shaw's is about 15 minutes from my house.
Check with David Belcher (roadkingedout); he's coming from Bloomington, IN.

Howard-
Im going to bag the 12k service. I dont think the engine will be "cold" enough to do the valve check. I still would like to change out the shift linkage however.
Thanks,
Jim

JimHow much time does the engine need to cool down for a valve check?
If you got here early-ish, would it be ready by noon? By the end of the day?

Hey Howard,
I'm still trying to see if I can make it. Things are iffy at work. Its a bit early for my 24K only at 22K but I can take pics or something. My brother-in-law wants to come also, but he drives a GT. Fair chance we'll be there.

Do me a favor and add your names to the attendee list if you are coming, for lunch-planning purposes. (or, just tell me and I'll do it) Thanks.

Kaceeee Kaseeeum here with this weeks top 20 count down!
#1 Hschisler with "I just want to ride my motorcycle"
#2 Roadkingedout with " my throttle she won't go "
Quite an upset as Messenger13 drops to 13th spot on our chart this week
with his chart buster "GT 4 me"
While our #3 with a bullit is Ridesalot with his remake of that old favorite "Bugs on my windshield don't bother me."
This once great classic oridginally sang by Willie G Davidson has been abandind by so many because of his "artistic diferences" I think in reality it's just gone out of style. Untill this great remake by Ridesalot on the BMW record label.
Enough of the music trivia on with the countdown
#4 darkey with "Can you hear me now?"
#5 bowlesj with " take this canister from me i don't need it anymore"
#6 jsciullo with " Shiftless again "
#7 Max the mailman Brown with the ever popular " no latch blues"
#8& 9 makinney the duet with " I'll be there "
#10 shadowofshoe with "Is it lunch time again"
#11 Nahas with " LT I love you , I love you "
#12 Schnieder with " I need you so badley "
#13 Messenger13 down from #3 with "GT 4 me"
that wraps up this weeks top 20 count down
I'm Kaceeee Kasummm saying "keep the rubber side down" "and keep
reaching for the stars..........."

Hate to say it but wont be at Howards place, saturday.
Just found out that an old friend is coming from Texas to National meeting in VA.
I would like to spend as much time as possible with him (he is getting up in age and has many health issues) so will stay in VA, till he leaves.
For those of you that know me, I'll put it this way. He is one of about 5 people on the planet, that when ever he speaks I stop whatever I'm doing and listen.
Have a great time, I will try to catch up with you next trip.
