I know 99.44% of the members here ride their bike to work every day, in fact, most would rent only a motorcycle at the airport, when travelling, if Hertz offered bikes. However, for the others, (couple of newby's and cruiser owners:)), Wednesday is "Ride to Work Day", an effort raise awareness of motorcycles. Feel free join the swarm of us out on the highways Wednesday.

http://www.ridetowork.org/I could post a very long reply about my attempts at getting my employer to show a little support for the 15th Annual Ride to Work Day but I'd just get frustrated again. The short version:

I asked the employer to mark off some temporary bike parking for the day; sent them info on the event, including a link to the above site. Their reply: they actively discourage m/c usage because of damage to the asphalt in their parking lots. I tried a couple of suggestions (use sidestand protector thingies, etc.); "thanks but no thanks" was essentially their reply.

Same day via email I get a msg from a friend who works for Nationwide Insurance in downtown Columbus. They are ramping up to really support the event: blocking off an entire street at corporate HQ; vendors and dealers on site all day; bikes will be on display for all approx. 8k employees to see as they walk into/out of the building; organizing employees w/bikes at 4 staging locations around Columbus to ride into work together. Awesome. Wish I still worked there.

Do I have to go back to work? We're taking a couple years off.You know, sailing in the winter, gardening and riding in the summer.Just didn't make sense to wait until 65-70 to take a break.Kids have been out of the house for 10 years now.I'll go back to work in about a year. One more winter to sail and then bring the boat up to Ky Lake.

It's supposed to be 107 here on Wednesday. A leetle bit toasty.

:rolleyes:It was 95 here today (central OH) and will be 90s all week. I'm riding every day this week, ESPECIALLY Wednesday. Wild horses couldn't keep me from riding on this special day, in my first year of riding.

I'm in. See quite a few more motorcycles on the commute lately. Guess it has to do with the rising gas prices. Surprising how many have new bike temp plates on. http://www.advrider.com/forums/images/smilies/ricky.gif

Seeing a lot more Scooters on the road too. Even seeing a few mopeds coming out of the closet these days.

Hoping to ride the bike to work today, despite the 105 degree weather.

I'm in... or here already.

At our work place they did not have bike parking at first. So we all drove in very early one week, rain or shine, and took all the good spaces and took 1 bike per spot. What do you know now we have 4 bike parking areas.

Rode in.... nice ... a bit toasty already, but since my truck AC broke yesterday.. (again) there is not much "difference"...except for the helmet. I "usually" ride to work.. rarely miss a day. Yesterday I took the truck, with intention of running errands.. found AC busted halfway to work.. so... hey, that's just another reason to ride!!!

Hey, Channing. I rode today too, but this TX heat is sure making my helmet smell funky :v:

BTW, Gearbox still holding up.

Aw Shucks, it was a balmy 86 when we rode in this morning and WWW.Weather says it's only 102 now. The ride home should be quite pleasant in this cold wave - down from 107 yesterday.

Rode into the job today at 0'dark:30. It was about 70 degress and a very nice ride down I-83 into Baltimore. Stopped by Bob's BMW after work for a part and a jacket (having a nice sale) for my wife then a 40 mile ride home. It was great, as it always is. Bike running great after canisterectomy!

96 on my way to work tonight, should be mid-eighties in the morning when I get off work. Just one of the reasons to work the vampire shift!
