Heated grips change out?

I previously had a r1150r 2002..... which the heat grips could be changed by cutting the BMW grip off using care. I then replace the grips with a gel grip of my liking which was better suited to my small hands. I have a 2006 RT and would like to change the grips.
Can it be done ?
Has anyone been there?

I did what your talking about on my '05 Rt, no problem.

I started cutting the 06 grips off but stopped
they appear to have the exposed thin wiring run in the black rubber. The r1150r had a yellow film with the wiring embedded within which was easy to avoid cutting............GAr
