Gmrs / Frs / Cb???

Does anyone make a comm system that has all three items???

So who makes it and how hard is it to install on a 2006LT?

I have on my LT a previous generation com system that was manufactured for BMW by J&M Corp. This system will allow you to have both FRS and CB. I lump GMRS and FRS into the same category as every GMRS radio includes FRS.

The J&M built system is commonly refered to as the ComSystem 3 or just ComSystem (as opposed to ComSystem I or ComSystem II). This is useful info when doing a search on this board.

While the ComSystem 3 will allow you to have both FRS/GMRS & CB operating simultaneously, you can only receive simultaneously. To transmit, you'll have to toggle a switch under the stringray between FRS and CB. This has something to do with an FCC law that prevents you from transmitting on two different frequencies at the same time (or at least that's what I'm told).

To the best of my knowledge, the ComSystem 3 will work on an 06 model, but a phone call to J&M tech support would be in order. I believe they still have these units, but you'll still have to buy it through a BMW dealer.

I installed mine myself after my BC-1 bit the dust (an early unit proned to failure). My ComSystem 3 has work flawlessly for the last 3 years.

It seems like there's no end to what can and cannot be done to these things. I am putting J&M on the list... will continue to shop and see what shakes outta the trees.
