Howdy, Gang!
I was hoping to locate a couple of gurus in the Sacramento Area that would be able to assist me in the installation of a radar detector for my new K1200S (canbus system) in a tech-day format and maybe gather a few other folks who would like to do the same... A Beemer is a Beemer, right?

I am going to go to Laguna Seca Moto GP on the 20th and I would like to have this detector operational before I leave...

Thank You!!

Sorry, unavailable Saturday and Sunday this weekend. I'll be going to and coming back from Los Angeles.

What do you need done. That is how do you want to wire the radar detector? Switched, unswitched power source? Audio into intercom?

Answers would help formulate a plan of attack.

Hi Raffy!
I would like to hard-wire the unit to the bike and I will probably use Pirate Lair's mounting platform. I am concerned about attaching it to the canbus system and the implications to such an application.

...So probably some kind of switched power source instead of the normal battery-keyswitched-on scenario, which may damage the internal electronics of the Radar Detector during the start-up procedure for the bike.

Is there a website with a step-by-step instruction or .pdf or ? I am pretty good at directions... Just ask my wife. :crazy:

Thanks!!

If you are hard wiring to the bike, then it would be to the battery. no switched source. If you want switched source, we can use the parking lamp for source with the CANbus Plug N Play wiring adapter or look up the CANbus 101 thread by Randy for other ideas.

I might be available tonight but not sure till around 5:30 PM.

I'll PM you with my digits. Thank you VERY much for that nugget. I knew there had to be some forethought on the Deutche side since these things are so friggin' fast! :D

Jeff;

If you are not using a power box such as the Blue Sea power box, I would highly recommend it. Not only does it provide fuse protection, but organizes your power requirements. With BMW electronics, I feel much better knowing my bike is protected from my farkles (at least as much as I can protect it).

As Raffy stated about finding power, I found similar power and powered my Blue Sea box as a central power point. When you want to add other farkles such as lights that might require a relay, you will already be setup for it

You can pick up a blue sea box in Rocklin at West Marine for $28 (+/-).

my 2 cents
