View Full Version : LT Headlight Protection

I'd like to see if number of LT owners that provide 'insurance' / reduce the risk of a stray rock / other road debri hitting / breaking their headlight(s) vs those that don't or currently haven't put on 'protection'.
I currently don't and resist because the ones I've seen are unsightly, appear to be hard to clean (hence enhancing the 'unsightly' comment), and also appear to fog / craze and thereby reduce the already limited LT's headlight's capability of night road illumination.
Perhaps include the 'brands' of protection / covers as there maybe some available that are better than the ones I've seen.

I've got Aeroflow headlight protectors on both the LT and RT

Was on the bike when I bought it. Suspect it is Cee Baileys but not sure. If riding at night and visibility becomes an issue, take it off. They only velcroed on.

I've got an Aeroflow and find that it does not affect the amount of light at all. Yeah it sticks out from the front of the headlight on 3M duo lock, but I'd rather have that protection than spend the $600 to replace it. JM2CW

I have read somewhere that the 05/06 headlights don't need protection as the lens cover has been changed ?? Maybe someone who has more knowledge can comment on that.

I have the same as Steve. Came on the bike. Easy to take off and clean, very clear, doesn't alter light output. I didn't realize the cost of a new headlight unit. Glad I have it now.

Mine is a Cee Bailey. Works fine. Like the others have already said, comes off easily to clean or if you think it inhibits the light at night. I guess I really don't think it has been an issue at night.

If they aren't needed I won't install them.

As soon as I purchased my bike I placed a clear film that cost about $20 over the lens for extra protection. The cost to replace a broken or cracked lens seemed to be in excess of $300.00. The transparent film was very easy to apply and is practically invisible. Just hoping it works as advertised. Bike now has 24,000 miles and so far, no cracks. Seems to be cheap insurance. So far!

There's a dead wild turkey alongside Interstate 95 in Hardeeville, SC as a result of colliding with my LT. The LT's headlight and it's *COVER* were not damaged in the least. IMO, this is one of those options/upgrades that shouldn't require a second thought, kinda' like HID lighting...

I had the clear film put on at CCR in Gatlinburg. Can't tell it's there unless you are looking for it. Seems thick enought to do the job. Three years later and no cracks so in my mind it works.

I caught a rock in a construction zone in New Mexico, cracked my headlight lens,
wished I would have had one of those ugly plastic covers on it.
A couple of weeks later I hit an Elk up in Idaho which removed the entire headlight.
I don't think a plastic cover would have helped.
However I do intend to put one on my new bike.
