Hi all,

Sorry for not lurking like I'm sposed to but the bug has me and it won't be long till I succumb. I've been down to Alamo BMW and they seemed nice enough. At least the guy who helped me. BUT I didn't like the over-all grock. A little 'hinkty'? Or maybe I was there on the wrong day? I hate to take up somebody's time and then go somewhere else to buy but I don't want to get hooked up with these folks and be unhappy. I'd rather buy from those who deserve my business and will keep me happy. I can go just as well to Austin where Lone Star has good reviews on this board. I am halfway between the two cities. I just happened to be in SA first.

I'm most likely to go with a new 1200 GS and I need to buy all the gear as well as I've been out of the game a while. My last bike was a Harley Sturgis and I'm 56 years old. (just FYI)

Thanks for any help y'all can give me. Appreciate it. :)

I kinda wish there was a third alternative.........

I wouldn't take my mother-in-law's Vespa to Lone Star but I've bought one LT from Alamo, had a few warranty items fixed there, no problems. Their focus in the back is sport cars (Kermit builds and races them) but they do have some knowledgable bike guys. Sid is the parts guy and easy enough to deal with. I dont know who is 'selling' these days but I got a screaming deal on my dearly departed LT. The replacement was used but the DPO bought it at Lone Star. It will never see LS again.

Alamo is planning on moving to I-10 outside the 1604 loop one of these days, building an new facility.

Howdy, Reed. (First name? Last name? Street you live on?? :D Or ...? ).

Lissen, you been to Lone Star yet?? If you've been to Alamo recently, then visit Lone Star and see the difference. I'm one of several folks who avoid Alamo and ride the 220 mile round trip to Lone Star; butt I know two folks who like Alamo and don't like Lone Star. Different strokes for different folks, as they say. I know you'll find that Lone Star has just about all you'll need in the way of apparel - great lineup of helmets and boots and everything in between. Denise is the buyer there and she's been at it long enough to know her clientele. Plus she's a rider as well.

I have no idea of the out-the-door pricing on bikes from either place; I just know I felt more comfortable using Lone Star's pen and ink!! :bmw: Good luck on your shopping spree and jump in here to tell us what you did.... and where you did it.

Next time you're reviewing your User CP, add some info about yourself - most folks around here aren't strangers to each other! ;) :D

Hey Reed, I bought mine there in 2000, but the next one will be in Austin. They, literally, are a mom and pop with the lean on race cars. Did you go look around in the shop? Man, oh man!

Their gear is real limited and parts are so-so. Pete, the tech is real nice and he's done me right with an ABS reset for nada. I hear tell they'll be opening a store on I-10 soon.

You must live out my way.

I don't know about Alamo, but I do know about Lonestar and highly recommend them. They also have the best selection of gear on hand for your needs. Personally, I deal with Robert Krull, one of the co-owners.

Thanks grifscoots,

Yeah, I'm in the Hill Country. I made it down to Lone Star in Austin today. Extremely impressed. Peter was a font of info and help. Lots of bikes, nice store, lots of gear, impressive service dept. I feel bad I even went to Alamo at all. What a waste. I guess they figure they have those who live in San Antonio and South of there captive and that's enough business for them. What they don't realize is they are so far off the mark that even SA residents would go all the way to Lone Star if they ever find out about it. Too bad for them.

Being an old fart whose butt has forgotten all about riding it was apparrent to Peter that I should take the Safety Course from Motofun. He was firm on it. I gotta respect that. Better a safe customer for life than a one time sale.

Will definately be buying from them. Besides, they had several 1200 GS bikes and one all decked out pretty much just like I'd like it. Good biz practices.

... for your help. I was thinking maybe I had stepped over some line or something as my second post took a couple days to show up. I haven't filled out my user page yet as I don't even have a bike. Then when my post didn't show up I figured I would not be hanging here.

I'll reconsider that. Reed is my middle name and I use it for my photography that I sell in a local gallery. I'm on the Pedernales River near Johnson City. Soon's as I get the safety course under my belt and my license and pick up a bike I'll be in here more often and look forward to meeting many of you. :D
