HELP!!

I hear a humming noise in the helmet (J&M 584 headset), when the the headset(s) (passenger or driver) is plugged in and the engine is running. The com system is turned OFF. Once I turn ON the com system the humming noise goes away.

Is this normal??

I have spent hours disassembling and troubshooting.

All the grounds and connections are secure.

BC3 Info
Part number is 99990000188
Serial Number is 2802-236575

Thanks

I to have this problem on my 03. I've talked to the dealer (clueless) and J&M. J&M even looked the unit over for me but it still has whine when the engine is running. I checked all connections and grounds also. I think the problem has to do with the J&M intercom and not the radio. Anyway I'm considering trying a DC to DC converter to isolate the power for the radio, Intercom. Well good luck.

I have also contacted J&M, they are difficult in getting any support. John Lazzeroni actually designed the system. Have you tried contacting him directly? He does not take calls, but will answer any emails. He appears to be very busy so his responses in the past have been short and somewhat unsupportive.

Also, I believe the issue is power leakage. I am going to try a high-pass filter. This will block low levels of power. I will install this between the com system and the power source.

What else have you tried???

Ehaughn,
does the humming vary with engine RPM? If so I have read some other posts about the cable routing being over the alternator causing electrical interference. I believe the discussion centered around wires that ran up under the stingray and in the radio compartment area. NOTE: I am NOT an expert on this. Just passing along some info from previous posts.

Looks like there are 2 noises.

The first is from the com system. If you turn the ignition to ON, this powers up the BC3 com system. At this point I hear a contanst humming noise.

The second noise is when the bike is running. I believe this is interference with the alternator. It increases as the engine RPM increases.

Do anyone know how to troubleshoot and correct the second noise?

Ehaughn,
I am not sure but it sounds like you have may have a ground loop isolation problem. How many different components do you have connected to the com system that are powered by the bike? I.e. GPS, radio, cellphone, etc.

Are any of these on when you here this noise?

You may have to disconnect the different inputs to isolate which component is causing the humming.

In my case I was getting the alternator hum through the radio. Com system was connected through the rear speaker wires. I used a Radio Shack ground loop isolator suggested by messenger13 and it worked for the radio isolation. I am not sure what you would need for other components.

Don't know if this helps but it may be a start.
