View Full Version : Antenna Mounting Position

I'm going to mount my Sirius unit today. And just wondering where to put the antenna. I have the HID ballasts about the headlight and I also have the small flat wing on the left side of the BMR shelf. I'm not going to use the BMR satellite antenna mount because I've heard rumor that there is a possibility of losing signal when riding in a easterly direction. That gives me pause about mounting in the nose cone on northward travel. Mounting on the right wing takes away the ability to put a radar detector up there.
So what's your thoughts?

Hey Steve,
If you're using the BMR shelf, that sounds like a good place to me for a couple of reasons. I use the BMR antenna mount, and honestly I don't have that much "brownout" of signal, even when riding in an easterly direction, but I do lose it sometimes when riding in the mountains, especially when there's a mountain between the satellite signal path and me. Plus, if you use the shelf you won't have to route the antenna cable all the way to the back, having to take the trunk off, etc. Good luck.

This is a great thread with respect to mounting a 2610, etc. on a K LT. Any similar mounting advice for mounting same on a R1200RT would be appreciated, especially a bike with a RCU shelf as opposed to the BMW shelf. TIA.
