I have had a Magellan Roadmate 700 for a couple of years. The first year it spent more time in the shop than on my bike. They couldn't find anything wrong with the unit. That was of little solace because it still didn't work. They sent a complete new unit. That one works when it feels like it. After almost three years of complaining, they sent the one part that I felt was the problem from the beginning - the power cord.
One conversation with their tech support group went like this:
Magellan - This is ________, how may I help you today?
Me - My 700 quits intermittently. Generally if I pull over to the side of the road and remove it from the cradle, jiggle the cord and replace it it will restart.
Magellan - Send the 700 to us for repair.
Me - I believe the problem is in the cord.
Magellan - Yes, we understand that, but send the unit for repair.
Me - I don't think you understand............
and the conversation goes on and on until I can no longer have a continued conversation with an idiot and hang up (all the time wondering who the idiot is), order a cord and voila, the problem has gone away.
It must have been the phone call that fixed the unit.
In my car it works fine. On my bike it works generally.
