It's time to stop talkiing about the last one and plan the next one! HOWARD! Start throwing out some dates. How about July 22nd?To paraphrase our friends from the South: do all y'all want another tech session... just one month later? I guess I'm game if others are. I was assuming (you know how that goes) that there could be a "fatigue factor" if we had these things more than every X # of months apart. But hey, it's all new to me. So...

July 22 falls at the end of the BMW MOA international rally. 6 months ago I had vague plans of attending. Not so many thoughts of that now, especially with it being 2 weeks ago, no reservations, and a preference to jump into CCR instead! Do you think we should stay away from 7/22 for that reason? That said,

Who's up for a July 22 Tech Session -- same place?

Or, suggest some other Saturdays. I do have some weekend conflicts coming up in July and August. These include 8/5, 8/12, 8/26, 9/2 (end of CCR).

Oops! July 22nd does NOT work for me at all. Sorry! The truth is, July doesn't work for me at all. It's looking like 8/19 is the only Saturday that works for both you & I.

Hey Guys/girls

I'm doing the Vermont thing for 5 days in July, leaving Thurs morning and stopping in Ny for the night then Fri evening and Sat at the Rally then two days through upper NYand home. I will be Camping on Labor day with the family(westbranch state park) so any other week end dates are probably good for me.

Would love to see a 12 or 24000 service or just ride to eat, I think we all showed we know how to do that!!!

RockIt looks something about like this -- same as every year. (sorry, I couldn't resist :D )

Mid-September for OTS 1.2 (Ohio Tech Session) works for me.
A RTE is something I've never done but sounds like fun. Many Saturdays/Sundays are open for that (other than those listed previously).

Disappointed that I had to miss the first Tech Session due to a safety course I was taking. Aug. 19 is good for me. September Saturdays look good right now. Game for a RTE in the meantime.

Howard, is 8/19 still an option?August 19 is still open. If we all decide we want another Tech Session at my place on that date let's get those responses posted here and I'll put it on the calendar. Once it's on the calendar I'll start an "official" thread for it, asking for info on who is attending, what work is to be done, etc.

So how do you want to handle this? Get a few more positive replies here then open up the other thread, or open the other thread and see who can attend? What minimum number constitutes a Tech Session? 6? 2? 1? And should we count non-LT riders...?

What minimum number constitutes a Tech Session? 6? 2? 1?I thought the scripture read, "Where-so-ever two or more LTs gather and Tupperware is removed, it shall be considered a Tech Session.".

I thought the scripture read, "Where-so-ever two or more LTs gather and Tupperware is removed, it shall be considered a Tech Session.".You must be reading the NBV (New BMW Version) of the New Testament.

Once saw a sign on a stage that said "Musicians and Singers Only". Most people don't think singers are musicians. But what do I know? I only used to play two instruments, played in the Coast Guard band for two seasons, and now sing in a southern gospel quartet...

The operative words in the above sentence are "used to". A true musician doesn't "used to" anything. Playing an instrument is kinda like breathing. If I go too long without picking up a guitar, or playing a piano, it's like something is missing in my life. I also sing, and I love arranging vocals and vocal harmonies. I just don't put the human voice in the same category as the guitar or piano. Perhaps it's the lack of ability to produce a chord (when you're alone) that forms this opinion.

And . . . these are only my opinions, of course.

Your statement "a true musician doesn't "used to" anything" leaves no wiggle room. What about a concert pianist who loses both hands in an accident? He used to play a piano, perhaps now he can teach, conduct, or compose.

Or what about a musician who for whatever reason puts down his instrument for too many years to pick it back up? There are millions of high school kids who used to play an instrument or sing but stopped after graduation.

Please, whatever you do, don't tell a vocal music conductor or arranger that the human voice isn't in the same category as the guitar or piano. You may find someone who can change your mind. Granted, a single voice can't produce a chord, but neither can most instruments -- when played alone. Your piano and guitar are exceptions, of course.

Wow. Can't believe I spent this much energy on this sidetracked thread. Interesting discussion, though.

Please, Joe, I am going to have to quit reading only and let you know that I am backing Howard on this one. I play the guitar (bass too) trumpet and 'used to' sing in a Southern Gospel Quartet. So, following your logic, my guitar playing makes me a musician but not my trumpet or voice? Because I cannot form a chord by myself? Mmmmmm? I don't think that has enough logic in it to even follow through.

By the way, ever listen to Bobby McFerrin? His ability to produce two notes from his vocal chords SIMULTANEOUSLY would therefore make him a musician as opposed to 'just' a singer?

I agree with Howard, good discussion.

Because I cannot form a chord by myself? Mmmmmm? I don't think that has enough logic in it to even follow through. My point was simply that playing an instrument is what makes one a "musician". But once a person stops playing an instrument, he/she is no longer a musician. And a "true musician" simply can't stop playing an instrument. Thus, I would question whether they were ever really a true musician in the first place.

The trumpet is an instrument, even though it cannot chord. The voice . . . is not. Except for about 10 people on this planet. And a few of those aren't living anymore (i.e. Judy Garland).

There are VERY few voices on this planet that I would put into the category of "an instrument". I would contend that you, Howard, and myself do not make that list. My regrets.

By the way, ever listen to Bobby McFerrin? His ability to produce two notes from his vocal chords SIMULTANEOUSLY would therefore make him a musician as opposed to 'just' a singer?Um . . . FIRST of all...a chord is THREE notes, not just two. And second of all, yes I have listened to that one-hit wonder. Although he's a great cure for insomnia, he's still just a singer. And not a great one at that. :D
