:bmw: I have a new R1200RT 06 model with radio prep kit. Does anyone have any idea or were I can get a radio to work in the bike. Do you know were I can order the radio kit and install it myself. BMW wants $1,400 That's a bet much for a CD play and radio. :bmw:

Here's a cheaper idea...

What does the Radio prep kit provide? Does it have the speakers in the fairing? Is there a CD Harness in the cubby where the CD Player would go? If there is a harness in the cubby, then either look on Ebay for a aftermarket BMW harness or go to a local Car Audio shop for one, then hook a Marine CD Player into the cubby with a wired Remote mounted on the bars somewhere. You can probably find one that plays MP3's or has built in XM/Sirius for a fraction of the BMW radio.

The kit has Speakers, antenna, wiring harness in glove box.
Thanks for info I will try that.

I went to Best buy and bought a radio, see thread on other forum BMW SPOrttouring.com. It was a tight fit but it works. The wired remote was bigger than I anticipated and I hav enot installed it and probably will not.

CD does not skip a beat and radio works fine.

Good luck.

Couldn't find your thread on bmwsporttouring.com so I'll just ask. Which radio did you end up getting? I didn't know Best Buy sold Marine radios. Or did you not get a Marine radio?

I have the same prep kit but chose to go a different route. I added a small 35w/channel amp in the glove box and control it with a "amplirider" preamp w/ volume control that also acts as a noise filtr, preampand mixer. It allows three item to be plugged in at the same time so my radar detector comes through speakers amplified when it alerts. The GPs voice also comes through. I run an XM receiver as well as occasionally an IPOD. Very satisfied with this arrangemet. Works very nice to 75mph depening on windshield position. I also have the option of switching the output to my Etymotics ear speakers for long highway rides and bypassing the 35w amp, running just through the mixing preamp. while still maintaing the use of the handlebar mounted volume control.
