I know several of you have the SKYFY2. For anyone who mounted it on a shelf, did you use the vehicle mounts that came with it or did you have to get something else to attach it to the shelf? Per UPS mine is scheduled to be delivered today and I want to have an appointment to get it installed ASAP, but need to know if I have to hunt down a bracket or not.

BMRproducts.com has a mounting bracket and Sunshade . The Sunshade bolts to the mounting bracket so it also acts as a "security device" to keep someone from walking off with the unit and also keeps the unit from popping out of the stock mount which can happened when you it a hard bump.

It's worth looking at as I don't think you want to see the unit bouncing off the bike. The only thing is you have to disassemble/assemble the mount if you want to move from vehicle to vehicle, but it's only two screws.

If you're referring to the BMR Co-Pilot Shelf, there is an accessory arm designed for the satellite radio. The cradle from the XM SkyFi2 car kit attaches to the accessory arm using four screws.

If you did not have a GPS in the middle of the shelf you may be able to mount the radio in the center using the BMR's "slotted bracket". You'd use the car cradle to actually mount the radio.

I didn't buy the sunshield; I've relied on the little plastic "lock" button on the back side of the cradle. It hasn't bounced loose from the cradle yet. I'll keep an eye on it from here on.

This isn't the BMR shelf. The dealership said it was an "F" something something shelf. What I am trying to find out is if I need to go find some kind of a bracket or will the car kit have something in it to mouth it to the shelf? I do not have a GPS mounted on the shelf, it is only going to be my radar detector and sat. radio on it.

I don't mean to hijack this thread but I relied on the little plastic lock on the back side also. As I was keeping an eye on it, I watched it pop out and bounce down the road as I hit a big pothole. :(

Thanks, Keith. I guess I'll add a tether to mine for the time being. Come to think of it, maybe this will help me explain to my wife why I NEED a Garmin 2730 (w/ built in XM receiver) to replace the SkyFi unit.

Lonewuff, I'm not sure which shelf you have; the only other shelf I am familiar with is the RCU shelf but the link on the Accessories page is dead so I don't know what accessories are available.

I bought my SkyFi receiver used, and it came with no cradle or mount. I purchased an XM SkyFi car kit from a local retail store to mount the radio to the bike. The car cradle sits vertically with the mounting surface on the back. As I recall, the car kit included a "vent mount" and an adhesive mount that you could stick to a flat surface on the dashboard. That mounting hardware is in a drawer somewhere unused.

You may be able to use the adhesive mount and stick the cradle to the shelf but that would place the radio in a horizontal position. Heavy duty velcro or 3-M Dual Lock is also an option. Maybe that would hold you until you got a permanent solution.

As I recall, there is a website called www.XMFanStore.com that had lots of mounts and accessories. Maybe there is something on the site that you could use or adapt if the shelf manufacturer does not have a suitable adaptor.

Getting the XM set up is a little bit of a pain, but I really like having the satellite radio on the bike. I also have an iPod setup but I end up using the XM radio most of the time. I also bought a home kit so I can use the SkiFi2 when I'm not riding. Only drawback is that I find the station set to Radio Disney when I get it back from the kids!
