Hi all
Bought my LT last year and love it to bits, exept for the fact that after an hour or so in the saddle I am getting terrible lower back ache, our friends over the pond all swear by the Bakup backrest, but they are very expensive and I'd like to be sure its going to cure the problem before getting one, as anyone tried one,or any other thoughts on the subject appreciated

You get what you pay for-----and in the case of the Back-Up it's worth every penny. Completly alleviated my lower back pain. By the way----one of our members here (Raffy) sells them.

Hi BigAl
I'm 6'7" and 240lbs. Putting on a Bakup made a considerable difference to my comfort and ability to do long days. The backrest now has at least 60,000 miles (nearly 100,000km) on it. I have had lower back ache since I was in my late 20's (now 53) and while I get generally uncomfortable on any bike incl the LT, I regularly do 750-1000 days when riding, without any special focus on lower back pain.
I regard the back rest as one of the key additions to the bike.

Have to agree with the other posts you have recieved it is a very comfortable back rest and easy to install. I always like to have something to lean against when riding a long distance. Try to pack a sleeping bag or duffle bag on the pillion seat to lean against before spending the money and see if that helps I think that you will find the support is a much welcomed addition.

I have had two back surgeries and experienced the same pain as you mentioned UNTIL I put the Bakup on. It made all the difference in the world.
I highly recommend you get one and enjoy the ride.
God bless:

Hi Malki
Yes it was from woody's, a real nice guy, good service and he even gave me a generous discount.
As far as the backrest goes its a quality piece of kit and once fitted, which is an absolute doddle, looks just like it was always meant to be there,as far as the comfort goes its a definite improvment on my backache problem, but as its multi adjustable I still need to do a bit of fine tuning, as I find its making me sit a bit further forward than I would like, once thats sorted I'm sure it'll be perfection,

It depends on how you ride.
I bought a back up rest, makes not much differance to me.
Now don't get me wrong, it is a well made piece of equipment, nicely machined perfect fit etc. Do I think it is worth the dollar value they are charging for it Yes (and I'm the guy with the $5 dollar lunch cooler for a tank bag! )
However 95% of the time I ride ramrod straight, (Think text book Motorcop) so rarely do come into contact with it. After 700+miles in the day I may lean on it for a few rest periods.
I have Mick-O-Pegs that put my legs straight down, if I had any of the other highway foot rest set ups Jpegs, ottoman etc, I would use it lots more. Also anyone that tends to rotate into a crusier like seating posistion will be better off with them.
(Come to think of it I ordered it, when I had Kuryakan air pegs mounted on the crash bars. Thanks now I remember at least why I bought it)

@ Woolly - Woody's can be found in Wales and here http://www.blue-job.co.uk
Mike is your man and very helpful he is too. All quality stuff for the LT and other Beemers and Honda thingy's. All parts Garmin and a few other goodies from the States.
