Roger, Enjoy your Summer out on the byways of America - you've earned it. We're going to miss you around here so make sure you log now and then to send pictures and stories of your adventures.
May the wind, oh hell may you have no wind, no rain but just dry roads ( without sand :o) and clear skies. See you at CCR unless you get home sick for an HDDC before that.:beer::beer:

Thanks John.:) I've been glued to the weather reports. It looks like most of the rain is east of Denver today. Hoping to find a break by next weekend. I'll be reading the dinner posts and any ride reports going on around here this summer.

Hi Sacramento. Just a quick note. Left Monday about 10:15 and got to Ely at 6pm. After a long day of 100 degree heat and dodging bugs on the road all through Nevada and Utah, I fell asleep at 8pm and got up at 5am. I left Ely at about 7 Tues. morning and got to Golden, Co. at 6pm just as Craig and Robin were getting off work. I will be here throughout the weekend and probably leave early Mon. morning. I plan on a three day shot from here. Maybe go to Des Moines(675mi.) the first day, to Cleveland(675mi.) the second and then on to Boston(675mi.) the third day.:) I am watching the weather channel a lot.:( Hopefully I won't have to ride in rain through too many states.
I went to Denver BMW(great place and people)on Wednesday morning. Instead of doing the brake and clutch flush, my bigger concern was getting on a new rear Metzeler and getting my windshield fixed. I put it all the way up while going through Nevada's beetle world as they were not only all over the road but flying also. When I tried to put the windshield down, it did not move. So my 700 mile Tuesday was looking through the screen all day. Denver BMW diagnosed it as a bad motor and would not be able to fix it soon under warranty so I decided to buy a short standard Euro shield which is coming in today. I will at least be able to see over the windshield until I can get a new motor ordered in Maine. I'll probably sell the small shield when I'm done with it.
Stay cool and talk with you later.

I have just installed my new laptop at my sisters place in Dover-Foxcroft. (Of course it's dial-up with AOHell). I am going to give you my last two weeks in under 100 words.:)
I left Sac. Jun 26th, 450 miles to Ely and then 700 to Denver. Stayed 6 days with family and left Mon. morn. for Maine. First day was 620 miles to small town past Omaha. Second day was 800 miles to Akron. Wed. was my longest day at 920 miles. I only stayed in 3 motels. I pulled into the old farmhouse at 2:30 am Thursday. There was a big old horned rat eating at the garden which I scared away.:(
I went a total of 3450 miles and hit only 5 minutes of rain.:) I put on my rain gear 3 times only to find that it is a sweat suit at best.:)
More later. Hope you are all staying cool and safe.

Talking about hot. It is not as hot temperature wise as it is back there but we get that humidity thing that makes 80 feel like 100. So my sister and I went out to town yesterday and got 4 air conditioners for this old house. Now we can find solice. And I finally slept good last night.:)
I've been hanging around this old house and property mostly since last week. Been to Bangor once which is only a little over 30 miles from here. I see lots and lots of motorcycles around here and in town. Many more ride with helmets than I thought. Many still don't. But this is definately what I would call 'cruiser country'. Yesterday morning I went to town early for something and saw about 30 bikes at the local gas station getting ready for a ride somewhere. Probably a little north of here up to Mt. Katadin.
As for a trip report, as I think of something, I'll post it here. I remember when I left Denver last Monday morning, I went up 76 to 80, I think I went by a corn field that went for about 450 miles through 3 states.:D
I did make the mistake of leaving my motel room last Wednesday morning a little too late, 10:30 am. It was a little crazy for me to get to New York City and the George Washington Bridge at 6pm.:p I just wanted to put New York behind me and then decide to stop or continue. So I called my brother in Maine to see how many more miles and he said about 350. So I had every intention of stopping but just kept going with a cup or two of coffee. I finally got off the Maine Pike at Newport at 2am. I found myself going just under the speed limit the rest of the way. It is quite dark around here. But with all the extra lighting (thanks Raffy) on the LT, I just kept barreling down the road with the bike on cruise and the right hand and right foot 'brake ready'. I did see a few horned rats along the way. And of course that one big one at our garden when I pulled into the driveway.
More later,
Dell

Hi Roger,
It is great you made the trip safely. I am currently "on the road" sleeping at my daughter's house tonight in La Grande, Oregon. Tomorrow I head back. I was planning on taking two days but after hearing about your long ride I may reconsider. I would feel pretty good if I could do the trip (~700 miles) in one day. You should be proud of yourself for your accomplishment.
All my best,
