It is self cancelling by distance ridden, not time. Turn it on sitting still and it does not go off, same if you turn on the signal then stop at a light before the distance is ridden, it will stay on until you make the turn and complete the distance. I don't think anyone has ever figured out what the actual distance is though.

I don't know if the 2005 models have changed anything in this area.

Yes there is a timer. But it is NOT adjustable. Sorry.

Sometime ago, way back in the Yahoo daze, I read that it takes 22 wheel revolutions before the turn signal cancels on its own?! I never tested it tho. Couldn't figger out how to count revolutions from the saddle, AND do all the other thangs necessary to keep ole Toad upright and movin'!! I just have this habitual routine of manually cancelin' 'em when I don't need 'em on any more. Fact is, I cancel 'em sometimes when they ain't even blinkin'!!!

Yeah, but, at least we've been riding them long enough that we don't honk the horn anymore when we want to turn left:p

That is a sign for me that I am getting to tired to ride.. Beeping the horn turning left is the first sign.. and the second sign is trying to cancel the signal with the horn... 'Here's your sign!' :D

It's a nifty BMW program that determines when to turn it off.
Above a certain speed it cancels by time.
It is assuming you are lane changing.
Below a certain speed it is by distance.
That's why you can wait at a red light and it doesn't cancel.

They used to include that info in the K-Byke manuals, back when manuals were real manuals, and creatures from Alpha Centauri were real creatures from Alpha Centauri.

I checked my 05 and any time I am over 25 MPH I get 13 flashes and it shuts off. Will have to run a few more tests on lower speeds. We will figure out the algorithm for it some day. I just have gotten in the habit of hitting it over and over as I maneuver for a turn where I want it clear to all around me what I am doing. For freeway lane changes I end up canceling it after the maneuver.

I thought I was over it but this weekend I honked the horn for a lane change:o on the freeway.

No, but I still end up blinking left when I want to honk the horn. Guess I need to honk more. ;)

:)
Actually, my 05 turns off after some period of time if I'm sitting still. I will definitely test it again, but many times as I start into my turn, I notice the blinker is no longer blinking. I have the Muth mirrors with the chevron on the mirrors so they're easy to see.

I'm in the habit of turning mine off too, but did honk the horn once when tryhing to cancel. Merging with traffic and honked. Had to wave at the car whose driver jumped. :o
