The frustration mounts, I have been on the road to Mecca like many of you. The metzlers roar, the stones fall like rocks at 6-7 K, now the avons wobble. I have read that they quit wobbling at 500 miles. Will have to ride some more to get past the mark, meanwhile dont have any open vessels nearby.
Dayem I think I am going to buy a Harley Davidson. You may not be able to stop them but you can ride one in some semblance of peace! Except for the exhaust noise, of course, but sometime there is peace in the noise, at least you know the dayem thing works.
I have read the post, and felt bad for some that were told tires were old and needed to be changed. these are NEW, right off the UPS truck and on the rim. Mayhaps I did not allow them to age properly, should have left them in the keg in the garage for a few years.
I just want to ride in peace!
okay turn the rant off now, Thank You, this message was brought to you by our sponser.
I just need to learn how to ride a wheelie and then wont need front tire!
There has to be an answer somewhere. Perhaps a car tire wont do any worse than what I have now!
Sorry needed just a little more rant.
Okay I think I am done now, Hold on let me sit here for a minute and make sure..................... As the theme to Jeporady plays in the background......................... Yep all done, again I thank you for allowing me to perform this task to aleviate all the pressure.

I seem to be the only one that kicked and screamed about the tire choices for the LT. I have had several posts over the last few years just like yours...so I feel your pain. My next set was going to be the B'Stone Bias-Ply . . . perhaps that's where you should head next.

I solved my LT tire issue by buying a new GT. :D :D :D

I may have to test drive one with the SO and she what she thinks about it.

Then again...I have a small feeling that getting more than 8K miles out of a set of tires on the GT is going to be near impossible. Time will tell.

Hey, Gillis!
If you come to Round Rock you can borrow Misty. I have the BT020's and they don't wobble.. only about 1.5K on them.. just changed..

When should I have the Community Coffe on? If you can cut it close enough, Phyllis can have some Beignets ready... or her signature Omelette... your choice.

Hey Floyd, I've seen post like yours on Goldwing & Venture sites, never go to the Harley sites, but they are probably there also. The Metzelers do growl when you get to the 10,000 to 12,000 mark on them, but that's the ones I've had the pest results with on the Venture, Goldwing, & LT. I have 15,000 on my set now, the rear is worn, cupped, & growling & needs replacing, the front looks good. On the Venture the front & rear would wear pretty even, I'd get about 20,000 out of a set with them making noise for the last 10,000.

Big E I guess I have a hard head, James told me to use Metzlers and just ridem, but I wanted it all. I guess I will go tothe metzlers and just realize there is no PERFECT tire for the LT. Oh well knda like being married, she aint Miss America but she is real and here, not over there somewhere or in my mind. It is never perfect but we work it out somehow.

Did you get your new windsheild yet?

My Metzlers were making noise before my trip a couple of weeks ago, they still had good rubber so I turned the radio up & put another 4,800 miles on them in 8 days. I can get some more use out of them back & forth to work & short trips, but at least the rear will be replaced some time soon. I'm trying to resist replacing both like I always did before, but you cheat yourself out of what it feels like to have 2 new tires. On my Venture they would wear even enough to replace both, right now my front looks good. I do have the new windshield & you are welcomed to try the CB -4 anytime.

If I hadn't already met your lady, I'd think you married a Basset Hound with that comment. But having met her, I'd say you pulled off a major upset. Yep . . . smacked it outta the park with your eyes closed! :D And you tell her messy13 said so! :)

Joe She showed up at work a few years ago and a couple of my hands had not met her before. After she left one came up and asked "Cap who was that?" I told him my wife and he said WHO? and I repeated the wife and he replied Capt I have one thing to say: "DAYEM" I just laughed and said Yea she married me for my money and walked off, they were all standing with their mouths open. Truth is she has money too! More than me! Some of us just got lucky! 28years now Joe!
What ya gonna do?
I keep tellin stories like this and it will be moved to the Humor section!

The frustration mounts, I have been on the road to Mecca like many of you. The metzlers roar, the stones fall like rocks at 6-7 K, now the avons wobble. --------------------------------------.

I think the better combination for grip (especially wet), handling, and decent life is the Avon front/BT020 RADIAL rear. The incessant wandering of the Avons is due to the REAR, but the front is very similar handling to the BT020 radial front, with better life, if you don't wear the sides of the tread off WAY before the center, as I did with the Avon fronts.

I got 12-14,000 from a rear radial BT020, but only around 8,000 front. The Avon front when run with the BT020 rear got about the same life as the rear, but I did not like the handling of the Avon after 6,000 miles when the sides were pretty scrubbed away.

I certainly hated the rear Avon, got a replacement for the first one after a couple thousand miles, the second was no better so took it off at about 250 miles. Ran two fronts though before finally going back to the radial 020s front and rear. Many like the combination though, so you may want to try that, keeping your front Avon and scrapping the rear.

I did NOT get better life from the Metzeler rear, in fact got less than I did from the 020 radial rears. The front Metz is probably the mileage king of all fronts on the LT though. ( I did try one front 880 RADIAL, it wore strange similar to the front Avon though, so scrapped that idea).

I installed Avons at the same time as Wilbers shocks, actually Dave at Port Clinton BMW did. The wander I experienced seemed to be directly related to cross drafts and wind as if the bike came a little more sensative but that feeling has pretty nearly vanished. The tires and shocks take this bike to another level as far as handling. I love the way this bike now responds to input and the control it has. The stock shocks were shot and sagging at 16.5K. I do not know how my opinion would be if I installed Avons on with the old shocks but I guess I would not have liked it.
I love the Avons.

Well wonders never cease! After riding nearly 500 miles the wobble has all but disappeared. Tomorow we head out on a 1000 mile trip and I am glad everything has smoothed out. Avon on front and Bstone on rear, looking forward to a nice ride. Should blast off about daybreak and head north. Yeee Haaaa!!!!!!
